It´s interesting that she mentions Prince´s alleged and occasional use of acid in that interview.

We just had a thread about Moonbeam Levels being inspired by an acid trip the other day.

I don’t really take her to much at her word because of her own past issues, and just in other interviews especially those in the come 2 my house era, she seemed to almost be making answers up. Bringing up acid is comical in a way because it’s such a throwaway type of drug whether he tripped on it a few times almost clouds the issue of later in life dealing with Fentanyl which is another league, Acid is like and unloaded toy gun, fentanyl is a machine gun loaded trigger pulled point blank, if you take it you pretty much are going to get addicted and or die.

She was on The Graham Norton Show (with Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Connelly) and performed "Like Sugar". I think she was lip syncing, which is sorta odd for TGNS. It's a funky little bop, though.

It is odd I don’t think I have seen anyone lypsynch on that show.

It’s a shame she is still battling WB over her back catalog and vault material. Other than the last reissue of WGDFM, they haven’t done a damn thing with any of it. Besides Dare You To Love Me, there are a lot of other unreleased songs that need to be heard.

Like A Lady and LadyLike are the same song. Who said she was battling WB over back catalog?

Is it just me or does her Come 2 My House album she did with Prince always get swept under the rug? It is often not mentioned in her discography and rarely mentioned in interviews when they talk about past albums . I really liked it .

Vibe magazine called it a masterpiece back in the day, and I vaguely remember rapper DMX praising it in some of his interviews.

It's a superb album that simply wasn't promoted well.In those days,Prince often argued that artists don't need record companies anymore...that they can release their music "independently" without the middleman....BUT,there is no denying that record companies can effectively promote and distribute music and get the singles played on the radio.Chaka's album suffered without that type of support.

Gotta say...this new CD is aMAZING! Sadly, there r only 7 songs, but hey...7 HOT songs at THAT! I only wish she would have included "I Love Myself" produced by Tonex. Must have been a licensing issue? Not sure. Either way. 7 AWESOME, bangin' trax from the Queen of Funk herself! No complaints from up in HERE! <3

The album is short, but when it's this sweet it hardly matters.

A total funky banger from start to finish.

Chaka's looking good for 65! Looking forward to the album as well.

Thanks for the heads up!

Sixty five? Damn, Chaka still looks hot. And I'm really liking the brief snippets that I've heard. Spotify tonight, and physical purchase on payday.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Well, it's not like she is making EDM/pop like on the radio, just feel good, uptempo schitt.

Oh God! I hope that she would never be pressured into stooping THAT low. She's too mature to be singing that kind of garbage.

I remember in 1992 anticipating the the release of "Woman I Am", in fear that there would be some New Jack Swing songs on the album since it was so popular at the time and a lot of the veteran artists were taking that route. Thank God she didn't! "Woman I Am" was exceptional from beginning to end.

Oh heck yeah. If it aint broke, don't mess with it.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Its a great headphones album, exactly the right length for the train ride to work lol

.

I actually dig the production quite a bit, its modern with a touch of retro sensibilities. Switch creates soundscapes you can kinda feel the bass vibrate at points and the way some of the effects add and reduce Chaka's vocals - I can see how some who prefer traditional recordings like the WB albums might be turned off. Its good fun though, I kind of wish Prince had worked with a seasoned EDM artist like Switch vs the Weltons as the output may have had more texture, more creativity in the production using the more modern luxuries and digital effects than someone kind of learning as they go.

.

I love Don't Cha Know and Isn't That Enough cool I wanna put this on in a car with a subby and see how it bumps.

if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

"Like Sugar" has been used in a few national TV commercials for Target and some airline. But it's the perfect song for an artificial sweetener campain.
