Bless His Soul: The Agony, The Ecstasy, and The Destiny of Michael Jackson

L. Roi Boyd III has written "Bless His Soul: The Agony, The Ecstasy, and the Destiny of Michael Jackson." This book is about the coming of age of Michael Jackson and how the events in his life between 1975 and 1978 were lyrically verbalized and musically communicated in The Jacksons’ 1978 album, "Destiny". This is a musicological study that includes an abundance of analytical commentary. Lyrical quotations of the composer are necessary and incorporated as they provide support to the themes and arguments expressed in this work as well as transcribed musical keys. Bless His Soul: The Agony, the Ecstasy, and the Music of Michael Jackson is an examination of how Jackson processed and documented his human experience during a tumultuous period in his life that eventually gave birth to his superstar status and his greatest work five years later(Thriller). For musicians, musicologists, and studio professionals, this manuscript should only be an accompaniment to the playing of the songs on the Destiny album. This book is a MUST HAVE for the serious Michael Jackson fan! Not everyone will appreciate the detailed study of Jackson's music...but he deserves a critical review as much as Tchaikovsky or Prokofiev. "Bless His Soul" is dedicated to providing just such a critical review to the greatest artist of our time. You can also appreciate L. Roi Boyd III's fine arts organization, of which he is a co-director with Yemaja Jubilee, at Cultural Libations. https://www.facebook.com/...llibations

Is there anything that can be said about Michael Jackson that hasn't been said already? Everything just seems so "wash, rinse, and repeat" these days, as if people have just lost all their creativity in creating some new, and never read or seen before.

LOL @ Mistral font. Of all fonts, this MFer wants to pick the same one used on Purple Rain.

I actually have a Pinterest board and every time I see something either online or in person that uses the Mistral font, I put it on the board.

So let me go in on something here, because I did a little digging (not too deep but enough): This person who wrote the book makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up 100 times over. I've seen and experienced people like him. He's some new age "we are in touch with the DIVINE" guru who usually has some older lady around him that he promotes as a queen or some higher ranking person (ranking in what has yet to be determined) with a name that isn't on her birth certificate. It's almost cultic how they approach spirituality or religion, noting themselves as the leader.

My friend worked in radio for years. A couple of years ago she interviewed this joker named Yahweh Yahweh who called himself the Holy Ghost. He had a huge gaggle of followers come with him to a small radio studio. He had an older lady with him who they called Queen. She was a "spiritual vegan chef, author" and a laundry list of bullshit things, none of which she excelled at in life. My friend was misinformed thinking she was a queen from Africa (she had an accent), but in fact it was just a name this Yahweh person gave her. It was basically a cult.

This Boyd character who wrote what is sure to be a blathering piece fo pseudo-religious-pop-culture-schlock has very differences with Yahweh squared. It makes my skin crawl and I don't really say that with many people ever. But when it happens, I pay attention. It's not even about the book, it's about the person and the motivation behind it.

Hard pass for me. oceanblue said it all, anyway. What else could possibly be said about MJ by someone who hasn't an insider to his day to day routine? I'd be more interested in a photo book of personal unseen photos than another long oration on how he was a tortured soul who never grew up-peter-pan-blah-blah-blah.

Of all song titles to use... bad choice. It reeks of black lacquer with brass trim.
