As of today, the top 5:

Stevie Nicks 117.4K

Def Leppard 115K

The Cure 76.3K

Todd Rundgren 60.6K

The Zombies 56.2K

Janet is falling just outside the top 5 with 50K

Def Leppard ahead of Kraftwerk ... if the RnR HOF has any credibility left it'll be gone if they allow that.

It’s a damn shame that Pat Benatar is not in the Rock N’Roll Hall of Fame mad
That is really surprising. I think Pat is the Queen of Rock & Roll. I know Tina claimed that title but I always considered Tina the Queen of Rock & Soul.

I agree. She was definitely the queen of 80s rock.I have a fun memory from 1980.One of my friends had just gotten her album and I went to his house after school to listen to it biggrin We were so excited. It was the album with "Hit Me With Your Best Shot",a massive hit back then.

I'd like to see the likes of Joe Tex and Dyke & the Blazers inducted someday. Very much long overdue.

FOr those who ask if the FAN VOTING counts, it actually does. Because it is what got Bon Jovi in, the fact that they got the most votes and it was a staggering amount, and fans and Jovi himself made sure that was known who got the votes, the RNR really had no wiggle room to say, sorry Jon like they did on and off for nearly 9 years. So thats why I say VOTE VOTE VOTE, everyone bitches about Janet, but does anyone VOTE, Def Leppard has almost 4 times the votes, god even Todd Rundgren has more FAN votes, so people you want her in, get her into that top 3 at least. I mean last year it was Jovi, the Moody Blues and the Cars and they all got in, the Moody Blues were eligible almost 25 years ago. So i have feeling that Janet MIGHT get in now, but honestly dont count on it.

The Leps should have gotten in before Bon Jovi, but it's good that they're making it up to them. They're a shoo-in.

I like them, and love "Photograph." They wouldn't rank among my greatest of all-time, but if KISS and Bon Jovi are in, I don't see how Def Leppard couldn't be.

Def Leppard would be my number 1 choice out of this group of nominees. Although I don't see how Kraftwerk aren't already in. Realistically, they are the most deserving of all the nominees. I just prefer Def Leppard. smile

Smh RNHF is one of the biggest jokes in music ever created. At times, the goons get it right. Much of the time, they don't. I get the fact that a lot of it deals with politics and BS.

Whenever artists I like are inducted, the RNRHOF is a great institution. Whenever artists I like don't get inducted, it's a joke.

I would guess that her audience has shrunken considerably in the last 20 years. Not only that, but she was always more of a pop artist. Now, there are obviously quite a lot of Janet Jackson fans still around, but pop music fans are, by definition, quite cynical. If you're not present in the charts, they forget about you.

lol 7 #1 albums - some of which are on All Time Best lists, 10 Hot 100 #1s, a slew of R&B #1s, multiple Grammys, groundbreaking influential music videos, trendsetting tours, an Oscar nom, and career longevity that's taken her from TV to music to film to a book and that has lasted since she was a 7 year old...I think talent has a lil somethin' to do with it. Fess up. You're young, right?

Talent has nothing to do with chart success. I'm not saying that Janet Jackson is not talented but to use chart success as a measure of talent is wrong.

I'm surprised anyone still pays attention to charts... lol

Set the talent arguments aside for a second.

Janet ain't Ella Fitzgerald.

But it's a Hall of Fame. She was one of the biggest acts in the world for 2 decades and one of the best selling artists in history.

It would be silly not to have her inducted at some point.

I'm not saying it does, but to deny that she has talent at all is silly. The woman has maintained a career for decades and is a dynamic performer. She has talent.

At the end of the day the fan vote only counts as 1 vote. So in the grand scheme of things... It really doesn't reflect who will get in.

Like someone pointed out last year (I believe it was on this site), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is simply not that important to R&B fans of the 70s and 80s. Rufus' core fanbase are R&B listeners ages 45 and older, who are probably the least likely to vote on these types of things. So if Chaka Khan is inducted with Rufus or as a solo artist (I prefer the latter), it will be based primarily on the votes from the committee.

I believe last year, Rolling Stone magazine looked at each of the nominees and predicted their likelihood of being inducted. They felt Chaka stood a better chance by herself because her solo career is more celebrated amongst the masses than her Rufus days. I agree but I think her chances are better with Rufus simply because she would be inducted with a group of men.
