Like someone pointed out last year (I believe it was on this site), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is simply not that important to R&B fans of the 70s and 80s. Rufus' core fanbase are R&B listeners ages 45 and older, who are probably the least likely to vote on these types of things. So if Chaka Khan is inducted with Rufus or as a solo artist (I prefer the latter), it will be based primarily on the votes from the committee.
I believe last year, Rolling Stone magazine looked at each of the nominees and predicted their likelihood of being inducted. They felt Chaka stood a better chance by herself because her solo career is more celebrated amongst the masses than her Rufus days. I agree but I think her chances are better with Rufus simply because she would be inducted with a group of men.
speaking of Chaka....I wonder what happened to the new album Like Sugar?
I've just about given up on new Chaka albums... But then again, we finally got Medicaid Fraud Dogg... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I can't believe you fell for that. As I have said before, I pay no attention to Chaka when she says she has a new album coming out until it is actually available for pre sale. I'm still waiting on the album she was working on over 10 years ago with DJ Premier, Charlie Wilson and Jill Scott. It, too, ended up in the can. And then there was of course "I-Khan", an untitled jazz album that was complete, a rock album and the Joni Mitchell tribute album, all of which ended up abandoned or in the can.
I'm hoping she and Rufus get inducted this year. I was thinking the other day about the Rufus documentary that was filmed a couple of years ago where Chaka and Andre Fischer talked for the first time since the 70's. It has yet to surface. Maybe an induction will force the release of the documentary.
