Chris Rea - Road to Hell I love my husband very much but sometimes he really tests my patience especially when he says Chris Rea is toneless, monotony and something else (I was too incensed to listen to him after the words toneless and monotonous). I think Prince listeners would have better ears to judge. Do you love Chris Rea or hate him with a passion like my husband does? Road to Hell isn't my only favourite..but we've also been all the way round the M25 for servers and computer gadgets so think the song is quite appt still for the computer/technological age. I can hear your Heart Beat is nice too. Anyway, just wondered what Prince fans would think of Chris Rea; whether they are also fans of Chris Rea or not?

I always liked his voice, especially on Fool If You Think It's Over. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I like a lot of his stuff. "On The Beach" just popped into my head yesterday, and then I was thinking of going back and listening to some of his albums again because it's been a while (and then I happened to see this thread!). He used the Linn drum machine on his 1983 "Water Sign" album, but I guess a lot of people were using the Linn at that point.

My husband goes mad and makes me turn him off....but when I play Prince songs he lets me listen and listens too. My husband is colour blind so wonder if it effects his ear for music as well? It's like the same when I'm singing and he (and other people) say I'm out of tune, off pitch or out of time....is it a question of taste thing? For exqmple you appreciate a piece of music as musically sound like Andre Rieu playing a waltz but something about it leaves you uninspired or cold? My Mum had Chris Rea album so I remember a !or of his songs from that. My Mum also loves his voice! Fool if You Think it's over is good too. God's Great Banana Skin.... I warned too after a while. I think with songs like art it either makes you feel something or it doesn't. Or it makes you feel something uncomfortable (as in my husband s case) that makes you react strongly and turn it off. Chris Rea is sort of rhythm and bluesy type music a bit like Bruce Springsteen I think (although my husband and definitely I both like his music). Anyway problem for me is switching off Chris Rea and motivating myself going to work.

Just to add that Andre Rieu playing a Waltz doesn't leave me cold or uninspired....but sometimes I prefer the up temp ones like O Fortuna and Ave Maria Marishia version) perhaps because I suffer anxiety a lot and they seem to echo what I'm feeling at the time more.

I've been listeening to Springsteen a lot lately--live concerts from 2016--great for anxiety. Another one to check out is Little Steven's Live Soulfire album--going to see him and his band in December, after Bruce on Broadway. Superb and underrated songwriter, just recently this year discovered him. His string of albums in the late 80's i really like, i'd say "Shamrock Diaries" and "On The Beach" are some of my favourite albums of the 80's. Glad to see there are other people out there who recognize his talent. [Edited 9/29/18 23:18pm] We're here, might as well get into it.

I saw him live last December, he was brilliant. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo
