Rapper Mac Miller dead

source

Mac Miller died Friday of an apparent overdose ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Mac was found Friday at around noon at his San Fernando Valley home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

We're told authorities were alerted by a male friend who placed a 911 call from Mac's home.

Miller has battled substance abuse issues for years ... something that came up in the wake of his breakup with Ariana Grande. The rapper wrecked his G-Wagon by wrapping it around a utility pole back in May and was arrested for DUI and hit and run. He fled the scene but cops say he later confessed at his home. He blew 2 times the legal limit.

After his arrest Ariana tweeted, "Pls take care of yourself" and was clearly concerned about substance abuse.

After their breakup, Ariana made it clear ... his substance abuse had been a deal breaker in their 2-year relationship.

His 2014 mixtape, "Faces," was almost autobiographical on the subject of drug use. There were also references to premature death.

A profile of Mac was just published Thursday by Vulture -- among other things, Mac said he had enormous pressure growing up in the public eye ... "A lot of times in my life I've put this pressure to hold myself to the standard of whatever I thought I was supposed to be, or how I was supposed to be perceived. And it creates pressure."

Thursday night Mac posted video of a record player and you hear his song, "So it Goes," which includes lyrics, "Nine lives, never, die, f*** a heaven, I'm still gettin' high."

Mac was supposed to start a tour next month.

Sad news. I am not familiar with his music, but I was familiar with his "coming up" independently and I did respect how he secured his fans his way.

RIP

Man, that's crushing! =( That kid could spit some bars! I liked his featured verses and his single with Anderson .Paak was catchy as hell! My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I heard a couple of tunes from him. One with Ariana Grand and another one about a year later. He had some talent, but he apparently could keep down his demons. RIP Mac Miller.

This reminds me SO MUCH of Prince's death. The signs were there. But no one could help. Also the cleaning up of the scene before authorities arrived is similarly eeriely compatible.

Never heard of him but it's never nice to hear about people younger than me dying. I just wonder if this particular death could have been prevented? Like I said, I never heard of him but from what's written here, it seems like he had a history of drug abuse. I'm not sure how deep that goes but it seems to have been well publicised. Couldn't somebody from his label have intervened? If you know one of your artists has a drug problem, doesn't it make sense to make sure he gets help? If not for his own wellbeing, then at least do it to protect your investment.

The articles I´ve read so far don´t specify what exactly he OD on ....was it fentanyl, heroin or what?

He was one of the real ones. Haven't bumped his music in years but I felt it when I got the news.

R.I.P. to him.

It's also mad disrespectful that many headlines are portraying him as little more than Ariana's ex.

Saw him in concert July 2011 when he was fairly new. I think at that show he said he was trying to quit smoking cigarettes. Sad to see what the spoils of money afforded this creative talent.

Never heard of him but it's sad when a young person dies needlessly...

I think the work he did commenting on his problem was probably therapeutic and probably helped him more than denying it and keeping up a persona.

I don't think he was glorifying drugs once addiction took hold.

What was he addicted to ?

And what exactly killed him?
