Leslie West, The Leslie West Band, Mountain

Leslie West was the lead singer and guitarists for Mountain...You know, the band famous for the song Mississippi Queen.

Anyway, i think Leslie is underrated. He's a damn good guitar player, and at his prime had one of the better voices in Rock(kind of reminded me of Janis Joplin). He's getting up there in age but he's still going(even after getting part of his leg amputated because of diabetes).

Rock on Leslie.

Leslie is one of my early guitar heroes. His tone, vibrato and feel was unique and he influenced a lot of cats from EVH to Micheal Schenker to Randy Rhoads. His raw pinch harmonics sounded so cool..I've always wanted a LP Jr, because of him...I saw him some years ago (on a bill with Uli Jon Roth) and he wailed on the guitar....It was a little melancholy (because he was in his wheelchair), but his playing washed those feelings away quickly....Leslie was kind of a "poor man's Clapton"..One of my personal faves...I was just listening to "West, Bruce & Laing Live" yesterday...(lol).

Good post.

Yeah, i completely agree with the comments about Leslie's tone, vibrato and harmonics. And when i think about the clapton comparison, it's spot on. Also, i think Leslie and Tommi Tony Iommi have somewhat similar tone. Leslie blues roots are more pronounced though.

Anyway, a couple more for the road(both cover songs)...

I'm not sure. I know a while back he lost half of his leg. Also he had lost weight, but i think he gained a lot of it back. At his age, that is not good...

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
