Chaka took 'em to church!

Jesse Jackson gave a great speech. Fantasia knocked it out of the house. Bill Clinton isn't looking very well.

I gotta say watching this off and on I’m glad there was no official service for Prince. The singers and people sharing persona anecdotes are fine but all the preachers and politicians on stage talking politics, yuck. Let the music speak for itself and the rest of them can shut up.

Prince really should have had more then he did, though.

Watching the Queen of Soul service. Makes me Wonder how Awesome Prince service would have been... SMDH

I don’t necessarily disagree except I think he would have hated it whereas I think Aretha would be/is loving this.

Came back in on Stevie closing with my favorite song of all time "As." What a way to send out the Queen of Soul.

Jennifer Holiday, Whew! biggrin Almost 8.5 hours. This was the most incredible homegoing service I have ever witnessed! Aretha was the closest thing to royalty the United States has ever had. We will never see anything this grand again! All of the performances were great! I know Aretha was smiling from heaven! biggrin The only performance I was disappointed in was Faith Hill. I'm not sure what happened there. It was really bad. But, other than that, It was just one great performance after another.

I think the very last song the choir (who did a wonderful job) sang was this one:

Faith has had vocal problems for a couple of years. I think she tried to over do it and strained her voice. Adriana had mic problems. Overall everyone did a good job. Jennifer Holiday was fantastic. I bet that crowd was starving. Man I would have loved for Teena to sing for her.

I wasnt going to say anything but she was very inappropriately dressed for a funeral. I can only imagine what all those old men were thinking when she had her back turned to them. lol

I wonder why Mariah Carey wasn't on the list of singers?! Aretha did cover her hit record "Touch My Body". biggrin

My favorite performance was Chaka Khan Including the matching fan with cheat notes on the back.. biggrin

Favorite speech Al Sharpton

Worse performance Faith Hill

Most underwelming & disrespectful performance Ariana Grande'

No comment on the eulogy. disbelief

Overall most entertaining funeral I ever seen. I wish Prince was sent off this way. But I have to accept the private memorial I attended instead.

I was hoping Mariah would be there too but she's back in Vegas. She had a show on Friday night. Aretha had a great deal of respect for her. Mary J. and Anita Baker were noticiably missing. Not sure if they had shows that day.

kinda wierd that he would do that on televised audience, he had to be oblivious to the reaction it would cause. kinda wierd to touch someone you don't know in any situation but that's really wierd, did he mean anything by it? I doubt it, it's just a stupid thing to do.

The black church has always been very political. Aretha was very political so it was not surprising to me that politics were a prominent theme throughout the service.

Well that didn't take long.

More than 30 dresses and accessories worn on stage by Aretha Franklin are going up for auction.

The Queen of Soul died at age 76 in Detroit on Aug. 16.

Julien’s Auctions says the items include a red sequined dress Franklin wore at Radio City Music Hall in 1991, a knit jacket she appeared in with President Bill Clinton at the National Medal of Arts Ceremony in 1999 and a denim jacket given to crew members of The Blues Brothers.

Well, unfortunately, as I've seen... the biggest market for memorabilia is right after a famour person dies--that's when you get to best prices. What a world...
