You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Yes , the whole album is great. It was so high on the NPR best lists that I went and got the actual CD a few months ago. I learned that I was ignorant to ever think that Aretha was only a singles artist. I stand corrected!

Another co-sign. I was a girl when the album and movie came out, and at the time, I resented the fact that Aretha recorded the album instead of Irene Cara, Lonette McKee, etc. Of course, as I got older, I came to understand the error of my ways! When I was even smaller, I can recall that the first Aretha song I ever heard was her cover of "Eleanor Rigby". And my babysitter loved her. I can still see her sitting in the car, refusing to get out until "Rock Steady" had finished playing on the radio. lol

These happy memories keep me from feeling too sad.

As a child of the 80s, I’m partial to this song and Freeway of Love.

RIP the Queen of Soul. Much respect to you.

She was not only the Queen of Soul, she was the Queen of Song. From blues to gospel, pop to classical, soul to jazz, she was one of the best in any genre.

Here's a gem from a jazz album, Yeah!
