^^Or, her nephew could shield her from it by turning off the TV, news, etc, to avoid it all.

Aretha is an avid news watcher. She loves the local stations in Detroit. And let me tell you, they have been all over this story like a bad rash since it was first reported. To be honest, I'm getting kind of tired of hearing about it. She's not gone yet. I wish they would stop acting like she is.

If it is true that she was conscious and watching the news in her final days, I hope that she will have seen how loved she was.
Gotta find me an angel now. Such a beautiful voice. I’m very sad now.

I do agree that this is a crappy thing to say at this time, but in all honesty, if this was say Ted Nugent, we'd all be running down the halls cheering about his impending death. At least I know I would be.

I hope Aretha does not suffer. What a voice!!

as much as that asshole likes to appropriate and steal Native Culture (and women).... I still wouldn't be CHEERING for the shit heads' death...

He's still put out good albums at a better ratio than damn near everybody. But what a shithead, you're correct. Absolute entitled arrogant shithead.

If anybody would be trashing Aretha, it ought to be about the pastor father and alleged orgies and all that. PLus... her supposedly being rude to "commoners." that could damn well just be old age surliness

Can y'all STOP? This is a tribute/bedside watch thread. Hospice means she is not expected to live. Ugly posts being put up here.

I wonder when they started allowing these judgy comments in death threads. The last few have turned ugly.

Amen! I saw on the news that Aretha passed away... I'm so glad that she got to spend her last hours with people she knew and loved. She lived a long life, fought the good fight, but I can't help but wish she could have enjoyed another 10 years in this earthly existence. But she has moved on to a better one... dove Thank you for all the decades of wonderful music, Aretha--you will never be forgotten.

I think I'm in shock. Just like with Prince, I haven't listened to her music or purposely watched anything. Certainly 76 is not an unusual age to pass, and pancreatic cancer has no survivors. I'm in denial of knowing she is no longer on the earthly planet with us. Just teared up this morning.

I was a bit the same. I had a relative dying recently of pancreatic cancer too so although Aretha was a bit before my time, it hit me hard. I’ve always loved her Voice and there are a few songs of hers that I simply cannot get enough of.
Also, like Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Whitney or obviously Prince, she was someone who has always been there, for as long as I can remember, and she’s now gone. We are slowly but irremediably losing all the greats...

hug Sorry for your loss, Silvertongue.

This morning on the news they asked Smokey Robinson what he would miss the most about Aretha. He said her presence. I think that's what we feel too. He grew up with her in the same neighborhood, her brother was his running buddy.

Stevie Wonder was great this morning too. He is always original with his feelings and message, no matter how they try to pigeonhole.

From Billboard

Aretha Franklin’s funeral will be held Aug. 31 in her hometown of Detroit.

The late singer’s publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, said Friday (Aug. 17) that the funeral, to be held at Greater Grace Temple, is limited to the Queen of Soul’s family and friends.

Public viewings will take place Aug. 28-29 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
