Rest in Peace wonderful Aretha.

Rest in Peace sweet Aretha Franklin, you gave us so much and more.

What a wonderful soul, singer and performer

-

Aretha once said on Prince :

‘He was a very unique musical individual who was so into his music.

He definitely was one of a kind, there truely was only one Prince.

He was music to the max.

He's gone, but his music will go on.

He just had a mystique about him, that kind of made you want to know a little bit more about him.

I don't really don't have any shelved music, everything I recorded is out there.’

-

She played Purple Rain on the piano together with Herbie Hancock at the White house in 2016.

Prince remixed a single for a duet she did with James Brown.

...and so much more...

-

Please, share all your memories of this wonderful soul and one of a kind unique voice.

I know they truely loved each other and each others work.

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Yeah, someone earlier posted that the King (MJ), Queen, Prince, & Princess (Whitney) are all gone. At least we saw Aretha's coming & could brace ourselves a bit.

And Rosie also did a wonderful version of Dr. Feelgood with Prince on guitar on the Diamonds and Pearls tour which was a combination of Prince promoting his new album and paying his respect to the old legends at the same time.

She definately had a voice unlike any other. I never really was a big fan but she did have alot of great songs. My respect for her increased a thousand times when she sang an opera song on one of the award shows (can't remember if it was for the Grammy's or the Oscars). The original person who was supposed to sing it was terribly ill and canceled and they asked Aretha to step in. Being the professional that she was, she said yes. She had never sung the song before, I think she listened to it once or twice backstage and then she went out and blew everyone away! Her voice was amazing! R.I.P. Aretha. Be at Peace.

My favorite:

bop: "Think"

slow jam: "I Say A Little Prayer"

also top choices (OBVI there are too many to choose from): "Who's Zoomin' Who", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Sisters Are doin' It For Themselves", "I Knew You Were Waiting", "You're All I Need".

She sang Nessun Dorma for Pavarotti at the Granmmys.

Saw it go "live": that WAS amazing.

With that little info, Google it wink

UPDATE: after Google; turns out she had performed the same song two nights prior at a MUSIC CARES event: however it was STILL powerful (i'd always thought it was right out of the blue)

He killed it. Prince turned a pretty generic, quite lame in fact, song by 2 giants in decline into a 10mn long killer funk jam, almost rerecording the entire track except for the vocals. Prince clearly took this remix seriously, probably because he was given the unique opportunity to remix those 2 icons, but also, I suspect, to spank James a little by showing how, by 1989, he had become waaaay funkier than James (whose 80's releases had been relatively unremarkable). I also remember reading that Prince had offered Chocolate to Brown at some point circa 1986, who turned it down. If true this could also have been P's way of getting back at Brown. In any case, this remix is a must-have for any Prince fan nod

Dammit, I never knew this! I have heard the original and I agree about that.
Edit: I've heard Prince's remix now and I'm not sure if I agree that he "killed it". Sounds to me more like he was overloading the track with beats and horns and sound effects that take away your attention from two of the greatest voices in popular music- even if the song itself isn't that great; I still agree with you on that. But a mediocre song doesn't become a great song just by adding extra beats and sounds to it.

It would have been so cool if Prince had worked with Aretha....maybe write and produce a few songs for her.I wish he had given her a great track like "Open Book".

She will be missed. I am grateful that there didn't seem anything particularly tragic about the way she died like so many others recently. RIP, Aretha.

By the way, I saw this today. It is parts of her last Rolling Stone interview (2014 I believe) that weren't published,
