So funny, this Who Do Ya Luv Remix was a topic of conversation IRL for my friends and I last week! It is a great vibe.

I have to say this hip hop song made the original even smoother but more upbeat somehow. It is such a groove to begin with but the new vibe is breezy.

I think it's nuts (in a good way) that so many hip hop and R&B acts at the time were sampling 80s tunes. You'd hear DeBarge samples, Teena Marie samples... and those were only a decade or so old at the time! That would be like if current rappers were sampling stuff from 2000-2009! I guess the closest thing is Drake with his love for all things 90s R&B.

.

I don't want your rhythm without your rhyme

It is only weird when you put it in terms of years. But put it on a hip hop timeline when rap was barely allowed on the airwaves and R&B did not sound like hip hop at all.

To me, it is pretty corny Drake using a Lauryn Hill tune when she was a Grammy winning hip hop artist. I don't care if it is turning twenty years old end of this month.

I’m beginning to understand why sampling Lauryn. It’s a way of celebrating her and reducating audiences, pun intended. Good on Drake, and I’m not even a fan of his.

It is true rap was barely on the airwaves unless it was pop rap or a crossover. We had to listen to urban stations and watch shows to get the videos. The remix was sick and should have been included on the mr smith album , but there was a dry mix of it

lol The miseducated youth learning about Lauryn... Well, I can certainly see that! smile

I know the REMIX wasn't on Mr. Smith, but came out wayyy later on LL's All World Greatest Hits.
