Artists Who Have Covered Aretha

For those who have dared to go there, these are the ones who I can think of off the top of my head who not only succeeded but, in some cases, exceeded.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Natalie Merchant recorded a live cover of "Baby I Love You", released as a b-side to her hit single "Wonder" 1996.

.

Hil St. Soul had a minor hit in 1999 with a cover of "Until You Come Back To Me".

.

Mary J. Blige covered "Natural Woman" as a bonus track for "My Life". Mary also performed "Day Dreaming" on her live "The Tour" album.

Or, to be more exact, Rosie Gaines did. Respect on the Nude Tour and Dr. Feelgood on the Diamonds and Pearls tour. Especially the latter was some good blues!

Indeed. I thought "Chain of Fools" was covered pre- or post-NPG as well.

Natalie Cole has done many good covers of her songs. Here she is performing for Aretha.
