FRANK OCEAN

I'm starting to dive into the Frank Ocean rabbit hole. Just started listening to Blonde a few days ago and I literally haven't been listening to anything else. Where the Frank Ocean fans at? Some of your fave performances/songs I should look out for?

Prince, John Mayer and Frank Ocean, my favourite artists for years now.

Blonde is a masterpiece, you have to be in the mood for it but when you are, its magic.

Did you check out Frank's Swim Good and Novacane? Its a bit more commercial, but very good.

I did. I checked a few of his singles and some of Channel Orange. HUGE difference between those songs and Blonde. I kinda like the chill, stripped back vibe of Blonde though. He's never done a full on tour has he?

Agree w/ everything about bold, gets me everytime I listen 2 it touched. White Ferrari is an absolute favorite, whole thing is rather good smile. channel ORANGE, I have mixed feelings, but I like most of it. Nostalgia, ultra is decent, I haven't listened to it in a long while, but have fond memories of Swim Good n Lovecrimes (all that shit in the background really elevates it lol). Endless has its moments also. Have his a million song mixtape somewheres 2, remember liking a few from that. He's cool.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Everytime I listen to Mr Ocean...I always hear him mumblesing.

Do any of you get the same vibe?

Like why cant certain artists just sing......bloody Ocean....Kurt Cobain...and D'Angelo are/were masters of the mumble sing.

John Mayer is another one who mumbles occasionally

There's poeticism. That's the selling point.

Same with Lana Del Rey. Spotty to awful live performer, but on wax there's moments of sublime beauty.

A while ago I watched a movie called "La Vie En Rose" about the life and career of legendary singer Edith Piaf. There's a major section of the movie where she gets signed and is sent to someone for training. She went through hell not only singing, but feeling and acting the music. It's obvious singers today don't care for such training but it's evident that it's sorely needed.

People like Frank, Lana, Chris Brown and many others come off as lazy performers and you wonder what all the hype is about. But thank God for wax. And poeticism.

It's cool that you see that in him but I think Frank Ocean as an artist is just uninteresting. His music is simply dull and unmoving.

One exception:

Here's the thing with Frank, I think he's a lyrical genius. Very, very clever lyricism all over his catalog, he doesn't say something that's just there for the sake of being said, it all has layers and profound meanings. Pink Matter is just another level of songwriting, so is Pyramids.

He's talented, and I think Channel Orange is a standout album.

But other than the brilliant "Pink + White," Blonde was a bit of a bore.
