You wasnt feeling that David Rivkin snare man? It really signifies the 90s man. Has a nice cool pop, like a stick on a wood drum a big hallway.

SDMC actually was the first song that

created it

The unique snare drum "pop" sound was created by recording the snare drum portion separately. A speaker was then placed on top of the snare drum, and a microphone below. The original recording of the snare drum part was played back through the speaker and re-recorded

That means you don't like these songs either ha...

While I like the song now, when "Got 'Til it's Gone" first came out, I hated the snare. It was so piercing and loud, and Janet's vocals were buried so far deep in the mix, it was difficult to enjoy.

It's a dated sound though. That late 80s reverby echoey canned sound that bled into the early 90s. The bigger synths and percussion motifs were the new wall of sound at that time. The song is very much like INXS "Need You Tonight" in that way. INXS was really on the line of being trendy instead of unique at that point, but they saved themselves.

I think of that song too, they would mix well in a blend / acapella over one or the other

INXS sounds like tap dancing shoes, FYC sounds like Darth Vader breathing.

Engineer/remixer/producer Humberto Gattica liked the "She drives me crazy" drums....

Even remixing then into the chorus only on this tune...

compared to...

I dislike the drums on Lou Gramms solo album "Long hard look". They sound too piercing in the mix. Nice that allmusic sorta agrees. A shame, as producer Peter Wolf (whom I love) should know better, but then, the drummer was Lou Gramms brother, so you know LOL. Shoulda got Jeff or Vinnie or anyone of those El-lay guys who played on everything back then. Not a major problem, but I notice it LOL.

I still don't know the verses to "Got Til It's Gone" lol I agree she was mixed way too low, like when Mike put her on "Scream"

And Jimmy & Terry fixed that, at least.

The thing is, the melody of "Got 'Til It's Gone" is so nice. The delivery, the lyric, the melody - it's so smooth and nice. I'd actually love to hear it without the snare. I think it could be a whole different song (like a b-side or EP remix). It reminds me of "Father Figure" from George Michael, that had a snare and more percussion and rhythm. During the production, he cut the snare, and simplified the rhythm and it became this lush, beautiful ballad transformed from a mid-tempo R&B song.

Perfect example. I would love to hear that too. Actually, there are a tonne of remixes. I wonder if there was one closer to that.

I have a lot of them, but it's been a minute since I've listened to any of them.

Anything from Missing Persons "Rhyme and Reason" album. I love love love this project, but I'd kill to hear a version with real/acoustic drums as opposed to what sounds like Terry Bozzio beating on cardboard boxes.

This is what you want...This is what you get.
