Funk Icon George Clinton to Retire from Touring: Exclusive

George Clinton to Retire ... Billboard

george-clinton-live-march-8-2018-billboard-1548.jpg

If you want to watch the original master of funk do his thing, you’ve got one more year. Parliament/Funkadelic frontman/producer George Clinton is set to retire from touring in May 2019.

“This has been coming a long time,” Clinton says in a statement announcing his retirement. “Anyone who has been to the shows over the past couple of years has noticed that I’ve been out front less and less.”

Unfortunately,no.There is an orger here (Mr.Wiggles) who predicted months ago that it probably won’t be released.Looks like he may be right.

That's a shame. Some of the little snippets of stuff on YouTube sounded really good.

Why wouldn't it be released?

It just seems like it’s taking forever to arrive.I wonder if George is bored with it and has moved on.

I guess that could be. It's not like he's releasing much these days.

Had to happen sooner or later. There's just no way he can physically keep going. Mugg had a helluva run though. Did not know about the pacemaker. No wonder he keeps ticking and ticking and ticking.

I guess it's possible the Parliament album could be released at some point. I'd be surprised if it did though. I guess he's got his own agenda.

Perhaps George will focus on studio releases after retiring from the live scene?

Last I saw, the new Parliament album was subject to a crowdfunding effort with various extras being offered depending on the sum.

Any info on this crowdfunding effort first I’ve heard of this.

Oh ok. Thanks. I remember this now. This has been out for a minute. I could not ascertain whether it was for his "solo" record he announced with brain feeder or the Parliament.
You know what? I'm done speculating and/or waiting for either. He always does this. Dangles the carrot then nothing.
I'll try to get to a couple of gigs for sure before this time next year.

Yeah, there is some confusion about whether this is the Parliament album or a new George Clinton solo album.I’m tired of waiting. If it comes out, great. If not,the world will keep turning.

True. And let's be real, he's already brought us enough music to last a lifetime. Case in point, I got off into Mr Wiggles the other night from the Motor Booty album. Trying to decipher all those sped up voices. I heard stuff in that one song I had never noticed before.

George has been touring an exhaustive schedule the past few years. I saw him twice in 2015 and then again in fall of 2017. And he is touring here locally when I will be away next month. Can't believe he is doing such exhaustive touring at his age. He deserves to retire. Kudoes, George. Take a bow...you deserve it. cool

Funny you should mention the Motor Booty Affair album. In the past several months,I've been listening to that album like crazy smile I now think that it is my favorite Parliament album. It's alot of fun and it has a 'summery' feel to it....a true concept album all the way through.I really enjoy it.

I can recall him saying back in the mid 90's we're going on to the millennium and here it is 20 funking 18 and he is still going. It's time but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was sad about it. He is the ultimate road King and I'm proud to say I've been with him all the way.

It's been a great ride, indeed. But there's a reason his book is called Brothas Be, Yo Like George Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard On You? lol

Yeah man that album is one of a kind. Thich layers of production. I may never know what some of the lyrics are. If you slow down Mr Wiggles and listen with head phones it opens up a whole new underwater world.

I will see him and D`Angelo at Couleur Cafe in Brussels this year!

I have seen GC only once in 2008, so 10 years ago.

I am looking forward to it.

The funktastic Lige Curry has reported to funknstuff in a very informative piece that once GC is done so is he. Does not believe anyone else has the capacity to step up and pilot the ship.
It's hard to believe this 6 decade oddessey is about to wrap.

yeah and it kinda makes me sad confused but on the other hand,George has worked so hard and done this for so long,he deserves to finally relax and enjoy his life.I'm seeing him in September and I know it's gonna be a very special, yet bittersweet show.
