Drugs, drug addiction, and drug death have been apart of the music business as long as anyone can remember. You can't speak of the music or the world entertainment and not speak of its connection to drug culture. As I've always mention the human condition is a curious thing. Why some people are able to role with the punches of life, while some succumb to it, is a puzzling. Be that as it may, everybody has to learn who to manage their lives, through the good times and through the bad.

If I recall Houston older brother turn her out.... he introduced her to drugs. Now reports are Mr. Houston confided in others, she was sexually abused by a family member. Yet, we live in a society that hypes the "boogie-man", the unknown.

As Hammad said, "But then again; family."

Everyone has trauma and bad things that go on. I think the drugs and stuff are more about the superstar lifestyle, not having any boundaries, being coddled, catered to, yessed to death have a lot more to do with it. Also, i think there is some truth to the artistic temperament being unstable. I've thought that since 7th grade when a music teacher would tell us about the great composers who were all tormented and miserable without the drugs. A component of being a creative is either being mentally ill or close enough to it to have a lot of the same symptoms.

We've had serious drug problem in the US for a minute. Let me be blunt life for the strong, either you have the skills to rolls with the ups and downs are you don't. We have a serious drug problem in the U.S. the majority of the people aren't in the entertainment field. I recall Elton John telling an interviewer, that he didn't drink or take drugs before "Good Bye Yellow Brick Road". When the guy asked why did he partake, Sir Elton said, because it was offered." El DeBarge pretty much said the same thing. Since all of his family was using, he decided to try it "once". I suspect most people mess around because they were curious.

Probably its a "pink elephant in the room" situation. One of the interviewees said something to the effect, that gay men in church can be expected, but you don't talk about lesbians or how they carried on. Perhaps its the same in their family dynamic, they don't acknowledge it etc..

Cissy's judgement always baffles me. Since she had her own secrets that rocked that family. Also Cissy has sung backup for and been around many artist and entertainers that were sexually fluid. Maybe she didn't know her daughter was touched until now.

I hear you, a couple of things to examine though, Cissy came from the church not to mention a different time where certain things were frowned upon, what else to be expected? And especially because she has been in the industry for that long, she might've felt over protective, right or worng she's a mom and her choices might not always right, but who's always is? A lesbian girl who's black in the 80s, I don't think Whitney would've enjoyed a fruitful career much less get embraced by the industry. Being gay or lesbian among people of color is still an issue in 2018. Unfortunately, all that "fear" was the same thing that supressed Whitney and eventually killed.

Well, in Bobby's autobiography he admitted that Whitney wasn't happy. Because she couldn't be free, to be her true self. sad

I believe it. Having your truth & identity taken away from you at an early age could lead to a painful existence. The upside though, she's at peace now and away from all that garbage.

you're right, everyone has some issue, in fact, i'm gonna start screening real closely who I even let into my life, period because it's so common. I had a customer who's wife is an alcoholic and she went bezerk on me a few mos ago, never again. but as you say, it's so common, you pretty much have to completely isolate yourself, and here's something for you to chew on. our biggest addictions in this country and the ones that create the other ones are POWER AND MONEY.

Its true, you can't deny everything you are and have a happy ending, making her the pop princess, the diva, the all american beauty when she was really a closeted lesbian from an inner city, self denial kills. I said it to a customer when he advised i go casting couch or for an anything goes mentality in pursuit of my music career, number one, it made me wonder if he sucked a few dicks to get where he was and two, i told him that "if someone can live with themselves after that, fine" he mentioned J. Lo. or some other pop star, and said "she sleeps fine". Maybe she does and maybe she doesn't but people hide so much of their true selves we don't know, is what i told him. I've got my soul that's gonna have to be enough.

i already know that, but what about cissy? are you saying she slept her way to a singing career? what? just curious. I never got the feeling cissy was any kind of doormat that's for sure.

No she's definitely not a doormat. But she had to go through some things to get that way. She taught her daughter not to be also. But I'm not going to put her personal business on here. But that family was full of secrets. What's in the dark comes to the light. I've learned that well in the past two years.

how do you know if it's a secret? anyway, as long as elvis didn't make her go casting couch i don't really care.

i think i saw what you referred to, in a review of the upcoming whitney docu, cissy is said to have had an affair with the pastor. her father sounds like a piece of work too.

Well, I hope the person that I got Terry Cruised by. Doesn't get exposed. It would ruin their career forever.

liljojo

Yup she said that in a interview. I just did catch it because I hae the HUGEST BIGGEST LOVING crush on her. So was in Miami and gave me a kiss on the cheek back on January 2006 at the An Affair of the Arts Performance and Arts Gala. I don't know what happened after that because my mom said "You're so embarrassing; she told you thank you and gave you a little smack on the cheek and you really fainted. So no we didn't get the picture Joseph" lol

I really tried to control myself but that's wifey to me, I would never lie, cheat, or do any purposely harm hurt or danger to her if she was my wife. The Lord and her is all the inspiration I would need in life.

Ok I'm done with lovey dovey stuff back on topic lol
