Cardi B's entire album stinks. Kill me a second time.

Here's the key to great black music, from a white dude: There has to be groove, not just beat. Attitude is just scrall on a brick wall.

Christgau loves this album. Kill me this time 4 real doe.

Are you a fan of hip hop at all?

I would give this album a B- it is pretty good for a new female rap album. Not socially concious, however pop concious. She knws how to make a catchy tune while some great female rap artists liek Azelia and Rapshody graft great tunes but do not appeal to the pop market. Not really much different this album from Chyna Whyte by Foxy Brown, The Cookbook by Missy or even La Bella Mafia by Lil Kim.

Hip hop and R&B is a genre like any other.
There is a whole spectrum of artists that span the gamut of perspectives.
Just because you don't like an artist who happens to also be a POC that is making hip hop or R&B doesn't mean you get a free pass to instigate a wholesale indictment of black people, artists and our cultures. It's unwarranted.

There are a million pop and rock artists who don't get the same scrutiny.
Pop and rock is an equally expansive genre encompassing all the different perspectives of mostly white people and thier artists.

not all hip hop and soul is magical, nor should it be uniformly held to this standard that every other group and culture are not required to consistently have to live up to.

From Wiki: The Magical Negro or saintly black character is a supporting stock character in American cinema who is portrayed as coming to the aid of a film's white protagonists.[1] Magical Negro characters, who often possess special insight or mystical powers, have long been a tradition in American fiction.[2]

I actually find her quite charismatic as a person, so I get why people like her. I haven't heard the entire album though I have had access to it because I am just not drawn to her music.

Her value system is all messed up. I'm used to women in rap being like "No, I'm not havin' it" or "You ain't knockin boots / you ain't treatin' me like no prostitute".

Cardi B sounds like she is reading straight from the Satanic bible, so that should earn points with some of you orgers!

Dude - when an artist has absolutely no musical talent, you're gonna get an album that stinks.

falloff

She does though if you actually listen to the album. Check out "Through Your Phone"

Look, I just want to break up all your shit, call your mama phone
Let her know that she raised a bitch, then dial tone, click
And fuck your little fake ass friends
Come around actin' like they my bros
I seen y'all little group texts
Where you all like to brag about your hoes
And you can tell your little bitch
I screenshotted all her naked pics
Oh, you wanna send nudes to my man?
Wake up and see your boobs on the 'Gram?
Lil' bitch, I cannot stand you, right hand to Jesus
I might just cut all the tongues out your sneakers

Smash your TV from Best Buy
You gon' turn me into into Left Eye
I don't wanna hear 'bout invasion of privacy
I had a feeling, it turns out you lie to me
I'm holdin' back everything that's inside of me
How you all fuckin' with bitches that follow me?

Cardi B has that evil vibe that is usually championed by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. She'll get in there before ANY female rapper. evillol

I definitely won't. Janelle is one of my favorite artists of the last 10 years.

Are you being serious? Even as a Cardi fan I know good and well that Janelle album is better than that.

i am...maybe im biased because i was a fan of Cardi B's antics before her music started coming out...and i was never a fan of Janelle Monae or her music, so my opinion is admittedly jaded..

Why even check it out? As a middle-aged man, I'm not the intended audience, and i've got enough good material from old school and current artists to occupy the hip-hop portion of my musical plate.

Let her have her glow up, and let her pass on.

We're on the same page, I agree with that.

She says "bitch" more than Too $hort and old Snoop Doggy Dogg combined.

I've heard the entire album. There are a few cuts that are worthy of rotation and a few lyrical moments, but it is mostly just an uneven piece of work.

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

So I was playing some good ol' LUKE which just sounds like sexual liberation to me now, but someone in my Jeep called it degrading to women. I was like, hmmm, but Cardi B is okay? And I felt like I was a baby boomer arguing over Madonna's filthy presentation. lol
