I actually think guys like this hurt Beyonce's carreer.

There is no need to say thinks like this, it's just an opion, but why compare?

That is, if you don't care you just want publicity, you get it when you say things like this. lol

While I like some of her music let's get real here. When she has been part of American pop culture (and the world's) for like 50(?) years, then he might have a shred of credibility.

Michael Jackson made music, some of it was great, some of it not so much.

Beyonce wiggles her ass and shouts while noise happens around her at the same time.

Hardly a comparison.

It's apples and oranges. Both have had amazing times in their career, and not so great moments. Both faced scandals and put it in their music. Both did big tours, and make great music. I think Bey's music has certainly grown and become better over the last 2 or 3 albums. There is a growth there which made me keep enjoying her.

While it was catchy for a minute, the layered vocals over nothing but a percussion track were becoming really old. "Single Ladies", "Crazy In Love", "Deja Vu" (sort of), "Get Me Bodied" and more are just her singing over a percussion track, with little or no instrumentation. Beyonce has stepped up her game in the way she releases an album, makes an announcement of new music & tours, and what gigs she takes to make something memorable (like Beychella with the drum corp).

MJ had but a few faults in his routines. His music was always different and new, although it's easy to argue that Invincible was his weakest record. Overproduced and nothing that catchy on it in the end. MJ's bigger problem was his lack of creativity in concerts. While some would argue he didn't need all the flash to put on a show, I would argue he was desperate for it. His stages and routines were all the same, over and over and over. The way he came out changed only slightly, some of the breaks in songs or schtick things he did existed since Destiny Jacksons days. He lip-synced 99% of the HIStory Tour.

It puzzles me because they never really gave MJ a movie like Prince or Janet got. He loved theater and dramatics. The fact that he never really worked that into his concerts they way Madonna, or Janet, or others did is a mystery. His little rocket ship entrance, or some fireworks for "Smooth Criminal" is old shit. They were trying to slay the prototypes of Fraggle Rock on the Victory Tour. Been there, done that.

Why is that important? Because despite the level of talent with an artist, it still becomes old hat. Almost instantly it becomes reminiscent of a throwback act. It's a lazy comfort zone. If anything, Beyonce has not repeated every single thing she's done in the past. Some tricks work, some don't. MJ never quite learned that.

So is Beyonce better than Michael Jackson? To some extent, yes. Is MJ better than James Brown? Yes. But also, it's totally relative. MJ's not around anymore. While MJ's legacy will never be different from his art, there will be those who supersede his accomplishments in music, concert, whatever. They may not sell 100M records (no one will anymore with digital being so readily available), but they'll sell out stadiums, set records for #1s or whatever. The odds are in everyone's favor.

the statement isnt all that farfetched considering Chane's age and gender...Michael Jackson had become a caricature of himself and almost a laughing stock and butt of jokes to people of Chance's age...Michael's legacy as a teenage song&dance prodigy and adult superstar, songwtiter and entertainer, had long been tarnished (because of all of the shenanigans in his personal life) by the time Chance's generation was exposed to him... and for alot of young black men, Beyonce is beyond reproach, in some cases for her beauty alone (even if youre not a fan of her music)... so for him to say that is not surprising at all...

We Are Destroying The Culture By Comparing Beyoncé To Michael Jackson, Point Blank Period

https://www.vibe.com/2018...n-opinion/

beyonce-michael-jackson-comparison-opinion-vibe-1526410442-640x560.jpg

Music can be a real gift to our lives. It speaks volumes in its way to inspire and, most importantly, create dialogue. This seemed to be lost upon Hot 97, the Facebook comments section of hip-hop, when it decided to create an unbalanced bracket dedicated to pitting Beyoncé and Michael Jackson’s discography against each other. Some of the match-ups included were “Drunk In Love” vs. “Black or White,” “Diva” vs. “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” and “Lose My Breath” (a Destiny’s Child tune) vs. “Beat It.” But for the sake of attention and content, we continue to have the moronic song-by-song conversation of “Michael Jackson vs. Beyoncé.”

“With debate reaching a boiling point, Ebro in the Morning created a bracket that will solve the Beyoncé vs MJ talk once and for all,” their post about the bracket said Monday (May 14). Except there is no debate. Comparing Beyoncé to one of her biggest influences is damaging in many ways. It proves what little research we’ve done to preserve the matter of music education and music history.

CREDIT: Twitter
“Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut, just let it go,” shared Beyonce on the five-year-anniversary of his death. Over the course of her career, Bey has mirrored MJ and has time and time again called him a point of reference in her music. “Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am,” she added.

Don’t @ us bro, but Beyoncé is the best entertainer on the planet. Point blank AND the period.

No one commands a stage quite like she does in this day and age, and her star power is so magnetic that budding musical ingenues cite her as inspiration for their own careers. However, Beyoncé’s superior gifts do not negate the obvious and present influence that Michael Jackson has had on her as a performer, nor do her extraordinary skills nullify his success and talent as the undisputed King of Pop.

Beyoncé isn’t the next Michael–she is Beyoncé. Creating division, even in the playful sense, only shows the lack of respect we have for our legends. It’s something we see in the hip-hop space far too often, which only prove the genre will not age well if we keep comparing apples to oranges, pears to avocados, and figs to pomegranates. Can we just appreciate someone’s talents without diminishing the successes of others that came before them? Throughout their careers, these artists only attempted to best themselves.

“Creating division, even in the playful sense, only shows the lack of respect we have for our legends.”

The Ebro in the Morning team had a reason to create the conversation. Over the weekend, Chance The Rapper received an honorary doctorate from Dillard University and gave a rousing commencement speech, where he spoke to the power of influence and shared his opinion about Beyoncé surpassing Michael as a better performer. Chance placed emphasis on how the next generation will have Bey as a form of reference because of their connection to her music, visuals, and presence over popular culture. His biggest example was her “Beychella” performance that owned the 2018 Coachella Music Festival.

Sure, Beyoncé continues to excel in terms of production both in the booth and on the stage. However, how can we compare the Beychella set to MJ’s Super Bowl XXVII performance? Or Bey’s 2016 Video Music Award medley of Lemonade hits to Mike’s iconic moonwalking debut at the Motown 25 anniversary special? Both of these artists elicited different levels of personal performance power that the world was enamored with at different times. No one’s art is better than anyone else’s because legends don’t need comparisons. They create their own lanes

If we continue to compare artists or figures who operate on the same caliber, it appears that these legends, their titles and their own personal successes come with an expiration date. If Michael Jackson—Beyoncé’s inspiration—was “dethroned” as the greatest entertainer of all time, then are we saying James Brown was “dethroned” when Michael Jackson did the moonwalk? Was Louis Jordan “dethroned” when James Brown did everything he did as a soul/R&B singer? This doesn’t just happen in music. It occurs in sports, too. We’re constantly bombarded with debates regarding Michael Jordan and LeBron James, and it all needs to stop.

“Legends don’t need comparisons. They create their own lanes.”

While it’s great to have conversations about superior talent creating their own history, comparisons between legends seemingly diminish and discredit the work that these artists and athletes have put in. Beyoncé didn’t spend her whole life attempting to perfect her craft as a performer and all-around artist to be compared to someone else. Neither did Michael, who was a pioneer in his own right.

So again for those who skimmed this, Beyoncé is not the Michael Jackson of her generation, she is Beyoncé, and Beyoncé alone is pretty f**kin’ spectacular.

So please, let her be Yoncé and let Michael moonwalk in heaven.

When many people of this generation, specifically Chance's age and younger (such as myself) can look past the tabloid B.S., allegations and circus that was MJ's later life and say that the idea of Beyonce stacking up to MJ is laughable, there's no reason he can't do the same. Considering Chance is actually in the music business, there's no excuse for why he hasn't done his research.

All these decades later,”Billie Jean” still sounds good when you hear it on the radio.Imo,most of Beyonce’s songs are garbage and won’t stand the test of time.

But anyway, Beyonce is nowhere near MJ's level musically or performance wise. MJ's performances are in my opinon only rivaled by Prince's.

Maybe but based on what I've seen of this comparison when it was originally brought up was overwhelming support for MJ, many of which from people within my age range including some who claimed to be Beyonce fans.

Michael Jackson career started when he was seven. You don't get the solo artist without the building blocks of of the group artist, Jackson 5, Jackson, and the solo career. In his prime if Beyonce would be embarrassed if she and Michael were on the same concert bill. Mike would put her to shame, just like James Brown put the Rolling Stones to shame on the Tammy Show.

Be that as it may...

When Michael Jackson was coming up the music being created in the Black community was sooo rich and diverse it would have been impossible to tag anyone as the best. Chance the Rapper is talking out his ass. For the past twenty years black folks reduce themselves (to "crossings-over") to singing now like Patty Page; "How Much Is That Doggy in The Window shit. Please.

p.s. That woman has about much Soul in her as an ant.

thats what I was thinking. taking into cosideration his age, he was probably introduced to Micheal's music thru his mother or his grandma so there isn't as much respect as there would be if he would have been a teenager during the height of Micheal's career. Chance grew up listening to Beyonce so yeah, is natural for him to think she is the greater performer.

I will say though I do find it a bit unusual for straight men like Chance and Kanye to give so many props to Beyonce. Straight males don't usually like to step up and give female artists credit and certainly it's rare for them to call a female artist the greatest at anything. I'm not saying it never happens. It's just not the norm.

A senior today would be a baby boomer, so they would be of the era the Jackson 5 and/or Mike was popular. They're the ones who go see the Rolling Stones & Paul McCartney. Why would the average senior today listen to Beyoncé or Top 40 in general? It's like expecting someone who was a senior in the 1980s who grew up with Laurence Welk or Rosemary Clooney to be listening to Bon Jovi, Run-DMC, or Michael Jackson. They still had easy listening radio stations for that generation in the 1980s. When that generation started to die out or get too old for advertisers, most easy listening stations changed their formats. In the future, Beyoncé & Migos will be the nostalgia acts for this generation, just like the acts that were popular for previous generations. It's not like a huge percentage of millennials are checking for Glenn Miller or Chuck Berry.

That may be so, but I just clicked on some Dee Dee Warwick videos, and there's comments already about the reports on the documetary about Whitney Houston. Likely by people who have never heard of Dee Dee before now and that there were no other recent comments on most of the ones I watched.

Even the best performances of this gen only get talked about for like a week at best. Since the MJ comparison, the topic of conversation has shifted to that rather than the performance.
