Lorde dragged for Whitney Houston gag

Lorde, who used to be 16 and a big deal, posted a photo of her bathtub with the comment "and iiiiii will always love you" to her audience. The Melodrama singer almost instantly had to apologize as negative feedback continues to pour in.

.

I thought it was kinda funny as she's like a fetus making bad jokes about shit she doesn't understand but I can see how people would get offended.

Her last album briefly topped the Billboard chart but did not go Gold.

Some people will do anything for attention! Lorde will be forgotten in a few years, but Whitney will live on.

Lorde's Melodrama was one of best albums of last year. Fantastic record, Lorde is going to be around a long time. As Bowie said of her...'this is what the future sounds like'.

This whole news story is indicative of modern thought police. She clealy didn't mean it in the context the 'raged' are suggesting.

I took it she was singing about her bath, and wasn't thinking about the connection. She hasn't done stuff like before, so I wouldn't assume she's a crude person. Especially, with her just giving tributes to other celebrities. But I can see how other people could easily see it as crude especially if they don't follow her every move, they don't know who she is as a person.

To be fair, Bowie also remixed Fame in the 90s with Queen Latifah rapping on it to capture the sound of the future.

Agree with this! One of the best albums of the year. She may be too artistic to continue to be so mainstream but think that she will sustain a sizeable fan base. Her recent NYC concerts got raves.

your on a prince fansite, you should know that gold status a good album does not make lol

why so bent on hating her?

her first album is an absolute classic, the second one somewhat less but it's still better than
about 70% of all other shit albums released the past 5 years or so. she's obviously talented.

without pretentions art would be very boring. besides, she's very young and very good at
what she does. she allowed to be a bit pretentious, right?

now. if the pic and the whitney insinuation are really like they are making it out to be, sure
she should be smacked down. because that ain't right. but somehow i don't think that's how
it was meant.

anyway, she'll write some long winded post about it before long lol that's why i like her lol

If I would’ve seen it as it was posted, I would’ve instantly read into it as a tasteless dig. Should she be dragged through the mud? Maybe not. But, yes, she should be taken aside to properly understand why it’s viewed as highly offensive, held accountable for it and apologize, as she has done.

Lorde's career will probably be similar to Sinead O'Connor's. Well known for one massive hit and then only the die hard fans will follow her. Everyone else will say "remember Lorde"?

It was a tasteless stunt disbelief I don't believe for one second that she didn't "know" about the connection between a bathtub filled with water and the song lyric that she quoted. This was a cheap attempt to get publicity but it backfired.

Yeah I'm kinda caught on what was really meant now because all I've seen so far by the people who supposedly follow her is her album stats as if there's nothing else about her the person. Maybe she has pulled stunts like this and they just went unnoticed by the general public. I assumed she was a nice low-key person but I don't follow her so there may be more going on.

I'm not much of a fan of her stuff, in fact it mostly bugs me, but there's no way in hell she was going for a tasteless publicity stunt, that kind of thing is a billion miles away from how she operates; she's an incredibly polite popstar, probably too polite for my tastes.

not a fan of lorde (her last album was okay to pretty good, her first one was terrible imo) but are we really doing this?

.
are we really taking this girl saying, basically 'i love taking a bath!' and turning it into 'i think it's funny that whitney houston drowned!'

.
really???? come on. this is such bullshit.

Although I respect David Bowie and am a fan of his wonderful catalog of music, I still don't see what he saw in Lorde. After he expressed his opinion that she was the future of music, I checked out her first album and just thought it was okay but nothing ground-breaking. The second album I don't really care for at all. Maybe Bowie saw potential in her that hasn't been realized yet. Or maybe it had something to do with the fact that Lorde's mother is a poet laureate. Who knows... shrug

Lorde is of the age where I would expect she has no clue who Whitney Houston is. Hell she was born way after Whitney was relevant and had hits. Fuck we are old.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

To an extent I agree, almost all my life I've heard "don't choke on a ham sandwich like Mama Cass" tossed around. Maybe "don't do a lot of blow and pass out in the tub like Whitney" is the new ham sandwich? She died 8 years prior to my birth.

It's just funny that there seems to be this growing attitude that she should be put on some pedestal for doing something that hundreds have done before her and hundreds or thousands will be doing after her. These are the things that give a person a pass for being an asshole nowadays? The bar sure is getting lowered ever rapidly.

The other thing I thought. If Lorde knew and it was in a twisted way a cry for help. We lost so many people lately without warning and many musicians are a little screwed up. So many people are committing suicide these days without much of a warning.

If she took it down and apologized it should not have got much press. The problem is the press too if she did it for attention/publicity she got mentioned on CNN, FOX etc. It's not like Warren Demartini might be outta the band news.

LOL it looks obvious to me.

It's captioned "day off".

She will obviously always love a day off with a long bath.

The Whitney connection is lost on her.

Not her fault.

She responded and based on the tiny bit I've seen and paid attention to her I assumed she didn't mean it as it appeared. But the response defending her is off kilter with talking about her album stats, like she's done something so unique and unheard of in the pop world that makes ANYONE who WOULD do something so crude should get a automatic pass as long as they have some minor musical success. That's just sad that is the way people think these days.

I actually think it goes the other way more often with social media. Once someone has been accused of saying or doing something wrong, then they are entirely demonized for a day or two then the spotlight turns on the next famous person to trash. Yes, there are often a few defenders who may go overboard the other direction However, the tone typically is more negative and dehumanizing.
