TMZ is reporting Rick Ross was found unresponsive and is alive only by machines.

Rick Ross has been hooked up to a machine that's taking over the function of his heart and lungs ... according to sources connected to the music mogul.

Rick is in a Miami area hospital getting treatment in the cardiac unit -- a strong sign he might have suffered a heart attack which manifested itself as respiratory issues early Thursday morning.

TMZ broke the story ... Rick was rushed to a hospital after a 911 caller reported he was unresponsive and "slobbing at the mouth."

We're told doctors have put him on something called ECMO, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. It's a technique used to oxygenate his blood outside of his body, before it's pumped back into his body.

It's essentially a form of life support, and a clear sign of how dire Rick's situation is right now.

Sad to hear this. I'm not a Rick Ross fan but he's too young to suffer health issues such as this. Poor diet is a killer, no doubt.


Hopefully he'll make it.

The guy who has given us decades of pleasure from stupid memes (yes I know music mogul, still), is on the brink of no longer being with us? I'm bummed. Hope he pulls through but this doesn't sound like something one bounces back from.

Yeah, it's weird. Most don't come back from a cardiac arrest (like MJ), but even a bad heart attack can be treated and the patient kept alive and turned around. He's 42, and although we don't know how good or bad his diet was, this is definitely a dire situation so far.

This is his second health scare that I'm aware of...Last time I saw him on TV he looked like he slimmed down a bit. Hope he pulls through.. 42 is still young.

Rick Ross has reportedly been released from the hospital and back home after being in TWO hospitals.

Sources connected to Ross tell us the rap mogul went home in the wee hours of Monday morning. We're told he's receiving care at his residence.

Our sources say he had respiratory issues but it turned out to be heart-related. He was in ICU for a time and put on ECMO, which assists respiratory and heart functions.

He had actually been in 2 hospitals ... transferred from one to another due to his condition.
