Reissue Talk #33

Toto's 40th-anniversary celebration continues with the upcoming release of All In, a deluxe box collecting each of the albums released during the band's long association with CBS/Sony.

Due this fall and available to pre-order now through April 10, All In covers the majority of Toto's recording career, running from their 1978 debut through 1999's Mindfields — a span that saw the band putting out 11 studio albums in all, including the 1998 odds-and-ends collection Toto XX. They're collected here on 13 CDs and 17 LPs, all of which sport remastered sound courtesy of Toto and acclaimed producer, mixer and engineer Elliot Scheiner.

The box also includes the previously unreleased Live in Tokyo EP, culled from their 1980 tour, along with a new LP, Old Is New, which includes 10 tracks, seven of which are previously unreleased and the three new songs found on the upcoming hits collection 40 Trips Around the Sun.

A detailed track listing hasn't yet been made available, but fans can expect some extras. According to the All In press release, the box will also include a 5.1 surround mix for 1982's landmark Toto IV LP, a Blu-ray and an 80-page book offering new essays and previously unpublished photos. Each box also comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity signed by the band.

The "full" version of this box set can be pre-ordered directly from Toto's website, priced at $499.99:

Description
Robinsongs bring you the first Double Definitive collection by M.F.S.B. featuring all the full-length versions of their biggest & best tracks.

M.F.S.B., which stood for Mother, Father, Sister, Brother released seven albums on Philadelphia International but were also the backing orchestra for all the big hits by the likes of the O’Jays, Three Degrees, Billy Paul, Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls and Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes.

This package also contains the full-length version of the classic ‘Let’s Clean Up The Ghetto’ which featured all the major artists on the Philadelphia International label, but the driving force behind this hit was defiantly M.F.S.B.

‘T.S.O.P (The Sound Of Philadelphia)’ was the ensemble’s first smash hit single, and went to No. 1 on both the R&B & Pop Chart back in 1974, and was adopted as the theme tune to the legendary Soul Train TV Show. The track also featured the Three Degrees on vocals… but it was not to be their only hit single.

‘Sexy’ was a No. 2 on the R&B chart in the summer of 75. Both ‘T.S.O.P.’ and ‘Sexy’ also charted in the U.K.

The package also includes the track ‘K-Jee’ probably best known for its inclusion on the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack album. Other stand-out tracks are ‘Mysteries Of The World’, ‘Love Is The Message’ and ‘Dance With Me Tonight’ which Robinsongs include here in the rare 12” mix.

Sleeve notes by Charles Waring of MOJO & Record Collector.

Glenn Frey 'Above The Clouds' box set due in May

Celebrate the very best of Glenn Frey’s solo career with a stunning four-disc 3 CD/ DVD box set, Above The Clouds: The Collection, out May 11, 2018. Above the Clouds compiles the key elements of Frey’s music both before and after the Eagles became international superstars, showcasing the broad range and wide influence of the Detroit-bred singer-songwriter.

The first disc features The Very Best of Glenn Frey and is chock-full of major chart hits. Disc 2 explores the classics from his catalog, while the third disc highlights his early output with longtime friend JD Souther, known as Longbranch Pennywhistle making its digital debut. The final disc, is a live DVD culled from a performance at the National Stadium in Dublin, Ireland in 1992 on the Strange Weather tour.

Fans who pre-order digitally will instantly receive downloads of “Lyin Eyes / Take It Easy” medley and “The Heat is On” Image may contain: 1 person, text and indoor

The first disc, aptly subtitled The Very Best of Glenn Frey, is chock-full of major chart hits, including the Beverly Hills Copsmash “The Heat Is On,” the gritty, slide-guitar-driven gutbucket groove of “Smuggler’s Blues,” the epic Miami Viceballad “You Belong to the City,” the inward-looking poignancy of “Soul Searchin’,” and much more. This disc will be available as a stand-alone disc as well as part of the box set. And while Glenn clearly embraced the burgeoning video age, nabbing a vaunted 1985 MTV Music Video Award with the cinematically dramatic clip for “Smuggler’s Blues,” it’s the enduring essence of the man’s songwriting skills on display here that truly sealed his legacy as a solo artist. Disc 2 explores Frey’s prowess beyond the charts, from the classy to the classic. Included are the broad swath of “After Hours,” his majestic take on “For Sentimental Reasons,” a harmonic nod to the Beach Boys with a spot-on cover of “Caroline, No,” and the sheer battle cry of “Route 66” among them. The third disc highlights the early output of the duo formed by longtime friends Frey and JD Souther known asLongbranch/Pennywhistle makes its digital debut. Originally released on the Amos label in 1969, the self-titledLongbranch/Pennywhistle may have ultimately been consigned to the side bins of the acid-rock era, but songs like “Kite Woman” and “Run, Boy, Run” serve as the literal seeds of the country-rock movement Frey and the Eagles perfected to a T. Besides navigating the success of his own fine solo career (see “You’re Only Lonely”), Souther also went on to be a chief Frey collaborator on such pivotal Eagles songs as “Best of My Love,” “New Kid in Town,” and “Heartache Tonight.” The final disc, a live DVD culled from a telling performance at the National Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, on September 15, 1992, on the Strange Weather tour, shows Frey and his top-shelf band at the height of their powers, veering from the cool-breeze manifestos of “Long Hot Summer” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling” to the rip-roaring crackle of “Strange Weather” to the everyone-join-in vibes of “Party Town.

Bruce Springsteen will reissue remastered versions of five albums as a new box set, The Album Collection, Vol. 2, 1987 - 1996, out May 18th via Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings.

The collection includes four studio albums – Tunnel of Love, Human Touch, Lucky Town and The Ghost of Tom Joad – plus Springsteen's 1993 MTV Plugged concert special. It also boasts a special 12-inch of Springsteen's 1988 live EP, Chimes of Freedom, and the first-ever vinyl release of his 1996 EP, Blood Brothers.

Springsteen's longtime engineer Bob Ludwig helmed the remastering, transferring the audio from the original analogue master tapes. Both Tunnel of Love and Human Touch have been turned into double-LPs to further maximize audio quality.

The records in the The Album Collection, Vol. 2 will arrive in recreations of their original packaging. The set will also come with a 60-page book packed with rare photos, memorabilia and press clippings from the era.

Chicago: VI Decades Live (This Is What We Do)

4CD box set of live recordings

Chicago has been a concert force for more than 50 years, thrilling its legion of fans with performances that never disappoint. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers celebrate their live legacy with a 4CD/1DVD collection of previously unreleased concert recordings, which includes several deep cuts that have never appeared on any of the band’s live albums.

-
CHICAGO: VI DECADES LIVE (THIS IS WHAT WE DO) was recorded between 1969 and 2014, including the band’s entire performance at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970. The DVD features a concert that was originally broadcast on the German music television show Rockpalast in 1977. The set comes with a 24-page booklet illustrated with rare images selected from the band’s vast archive.
-
The first two discs are dedicated to Chicago’s headlining performance at the Isle of Wight Festival on August 28, 1970. It’s a snapshot of the band on the verge of superstardom and captures them in top form, playing songs from their first two albums – “Beginnings” and “Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon” – as well as “Mother” from their third album, which was unreleased at the time. The other two headliners on this 3-day festival were The Doors and Jimi Hendrix.
-
The remaining discs include live performances selected from six decades, starting with a trio of songs recorded in Paris in 1969: “Poem For The People,” “25 Or 6 To 4” and “Liberation.” Other highlights include deep tracks like “A Hit By Varèse” (1973), “Takin’ It On Uptown” (1977) and “Forever” (1987), in addition to songs from Chicago’s 1994 big band tour: “In The Mood” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.”
-
On February 12, 1977, Chicago played live on the German music television show Rockpalast. The entire concert is included here on DVD. An amazing overview of the band’s career to that point, it boasts unforgettable performance of “Saturday In The Park,” “Just You ’n’ Me,” “Call On Me” and “(I’ve Been) Searchin’ So Long/Mogonucleosis,” plus covers of the Beatles’ “Got To Get You Into My Life” and The Spencer Davis Group’s “I’m A Man.” As a bonus, the DVD also includes the band’s fan favorite performance of “What’s This World Comin’ To” from the 1973 ABC television special, Chicago In The Rockies.

You may not have heard of this Australian band (7+ members including two great lead singers) from the 80's but if you enjoy a fusion of dance / R&B / pop / jazz with soulful vocals then this is the CD for you.

I remember them biggrin , they were an early staple on Countdown (Aussie music show from the 70s-80s) back in the day.......I wonder if they are gonna re-release Kate Ceberano's early albums eg. Brave (1989), she is amazing live worship
