The Quiet Return of Sade

2nb68d0

02/20/18

The forever elusive soulful chanteuse Sade is making a highly-anticipated comeback in a major way. The Nigerian-born U.K. bred singer is featured on the soundtrack for Ava DuVernay’s film adaption of A Wrinkle In Time.

DuVernay made the announcement late Tuesday morning (Feb. 20) via Twitter, writing: “I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled ‘Flower of the Universe.’ And it’s a dream come true.”

Considering how mysterious Sade’s relationship with being in the public eye is (she’s able to appear and return back into an enigmatic state of fixated ambiguity), this is a pretty big deal. Her last studio album, Soldier of Love was released in 2010. Since then, little is known of her whereabouts though she was spotted last year at one of Drake’s shows in London.

The film is set to hit theaters on March 9.

Sade is one of those rare performers not defined by her identity as a singer. She's nonchalant about it. It's like she won't be bothered with it, can take it or leave it and be ok about it.

nod she's a very smart lady. She's not obsessed with the 'fame' aspect of the music industry. She does her thing, then goes back to her 'normal' life. She stays grounded and doesn't stay in people's faces for too long, like some pop artists biggrin

Identity

Somebody once said her persona is as potent as any in modern pop culture. To add to the allure, she doesn't have any social media presence. You won't find her on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, however the band has an official Facebook page. She makes me believe waiting for new music isn't such a bad thing.

Sade's concert tour in 2010 was terrific. I'm waiting for her to return with more songs like this:

Not to be a hater. ...but so much is made of Sade...but so LITTLE made of her band. ..which HAD existed and HAD written much of the framework on which her lyrics are set to. ....i just don't know why so much is made of Sade.

Maybe I'm not rolling enough blunts.

She's the selling point, yes. She writes the words and may possibly contribute to infections and melodies. ...but i just don't see why there's so much hub ub made about her within the group

I agree. Sade is like Donald Fagen for men. I don't have to listen to it first I'm gonna but it regardless.

I LOOOOVE her band and Cottonbelly, specifically that funky Janet Jackson remix for Son of a Gun and Esthero's Fastlane. I see on a quick Youtube search that remixes also exist for Maxwell, Miguel Migs, and Sweetback feat. Amel Larrieux that I have not yet heard cool Sweetback is another side project, as well as Twin Danger. They are a talented bunch with a great sound.

I assumed that when people praise "Sade" they mean the band collectively.
The bands name also happens to be called "Sade".
Sade is not a solo act, it's a band.
people may assume Sade Adu is a solo artist because she was signed as a solo artist as the record label didn't want a band and refused to sign them as one.
