Black Eyed Peas "singer" does National Anthem

I saw there was some news attention on this... I only know her as a singer from that part on the one BEP song where she screams "people in the plaaaaaaceeee" err whaterr and that Big Girls Don't Cry song.

.

This shit is mega embarassing lol I don't even think Will.i.am with his Macbook could autotune this to redemption.

I heard it and was a bit confused to say the least. I know Fergie was trying to do something different but it seemed off to me. I still think after all these years, NO ONE has even come close to topping Marvin Gaye's unique version and that was all the way back at the NBA all star game in 1983.

LOL, I do like some of her other songs though, but her version of the National Athem, she should've just left alone.

Congratulations Christina Aguilera, you are no longer the worst.

That said, I hate the national anthem. It's a stupid song, and the idea of a national song reeks of blind patriotism and brainwashing. There is a certain joy I derive when people do butcher it in general. But Fergie really went the extra mile with her Marilyn Monroe inspired rendition.

The anthem is a technical performance rooted in classical and almost operatic music, a successful rendition relies on hitting actual notes and intonation. It should be no surprise modern pop stars struggle and/or dread performing it but it was fun to watch Fergie drag and shake those notes dry.

True, National anthems are dopey and archaic anyway.

I actually liked Fergies version.
It's kind of a smokey, jazzy arrangement.
At least Fergie mixed it up with an interesting vocal arrangement that has elements of Bjork vocal stylings and Jazz.
I liked it.

Oh sh*t! Just as i was getting ready to comment that i hadn't heard Fergie's version of the SSB, it come's on the radio(NPR)...Yes, this is pretty bad...It sounds like a bad comedy skit, or some mess like that...Its way too dramatic.

Anyway, biggrin on the boldface.

LMAO!! lol

.

Fergie usually has a pretty nice voice. I'm not sure what she was going for here -- seemed like she was trying to do a jazzy/bluesy-type rendition. I will add, this is not an easy song for anyone to sing.

.

Whitney sang it the best, imo.

It was so bad it made Colin Kaepernick stand up.

But the award for the worst rendition goes to Carl Lewis.
