BLACK GUITARISTS

Gimme some names of great black guitarists that are out now. I don't mean strumming an acoustic singing folk, I mean SHREDDING. Nobody who's name rhymes with Blenny Brabitz tho thank uuuuuuu. I'm digging P's guitar styles at the moment and I want to help keep his spirit alive supporting new talent.

LOL it's just I feel he's the shoe in answer for Black Guitarists around today. Plus he's been around for almost 30 years I'm here to support the kids.

If we are including biracial guitarists then I'm bringing up the trinity of 90's rock, Slash, Tom Morello (of Rage Against The Machine), and Blenny Brabitz.

I haven't listened to him so much myself but Captain Kirk Douglas of The Roots seems to be very highly regarded, and you've also got guys like Dr Know from Bad Brains, I don't really listen to much contemporary rock or alternative these days so I'm not too sure about younger guys coming through.

Lol you’re talking to a mixed drummer so it’s cool 😂 i guess just in general, i don’t see many guitarists who are people of color. But of course that’s just through my eyes

Here in LA there is a shred guy named Eric McFadden who is well regarded. You might want to check him out.

.

Fred "Freak" Smith from Beefeater and Blaxmyth just passed away a few months ago, RIP, but was a big deal in the DC punk scene.

.

I saw Kat Dyson with Sheila E a while ago, she's still fantastic.

.

As far as young guys just coming up, I kind of enjoyed the stuff I heard by Unlocking The Truth. Their debut had the whiiff of "novelty", as it was preteen black kids playing metal very skillfully, "how cute!" But now we'll see if they can stand up on their own musical strengths.

He's from northern Kentucky. We used to have a couple mutual friends. I didn't know he was out that way...last I'd heard, he was with George Clinton.

Adrian Younge fer sure plays...I don't know how much he shreds...

Well the last time I saw Nels Cline in LA he had flown out to play a show with McFadden, so I guess he has serious credibility among heavy musicians. It looks he's playing the Mint tomorrow night and next Weednesday as well. His guests tomorrow include Doug Wimbish, Norwood Fisher, Blackbyrd McKnight and Lonnie Marshall. Damn.

Wait...now that I've looked him up, I don't think Eric McFadden is who I'm thinking of. Unless he was here for only a brief spell in the early 2000s and didn't have dreads...now I'm bugged who I'm remembering...
