^ I might quibble with Miguel, but otherwise, I'd definitely agree with the choices. For their artistic or commercial merits, I'd also offer:

Black Messiah, D'Angelo and the Vanguard

Yes Lawd! NxWorries

Choose Your Weapon, Hiatus Kaiyote

New Amerykah Part 2
, Erykah Badu

What Were You Hoping For?, Van Hunt

Ego Death, The Internet

Drunk, Thundercat

Fin, Syd

I'm also leaning towards Where Does This Door Go? by Mayer Hawthorne.

I'm afraid to ask but I will anyway: Where does Beyonce's catalogue fit into this discussion?

A black background; the word "Beyoncé" is stylized in an uppercase pink font and located in the center of the image.

This randomly released album (with all the songs videos attatched *DVD and Mp4* including a bonus video) was defenitley a game changer. I will never forget the internet buzz the day it was released. Not only the buzz surrounding it....but it was artistic and an actual good album as a whole. My personal favorite of her discography. A woman now married and in her 30's discussing her love for intimacy with her husband "Drunk In Love", "Blow", "Flawless / Yonce", ", and personal confrontations with fame "Haunted / Ghost", "Pretty Hurts", losing her child "Heaven" and insecurities on marriage "Jealous".

Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love!.png

"Awaken My Love!"
Childish Gambino
2016 Glassnot Records

No one mentioned this album that seems like it should not have been a hit at all. It is a sign of r&b fans young and old gravitating to authentic soul / funk and rock music again after being LONG ignored.

Childish Gambino even shocked me listening to this album how rich in musicianship and songwriting it is as a whole. Sounds like a Funkadelic album. The album is certified Gold in the US and Canada

Another suprise single "Redbone" was so well recieved it won best R&B Performance and sold 3 million copies in the US alone.

I think the public is wanting real music again.
