Walk Between Worlds

Another strong album from the minds, on a good streak at the moment, since 2005.

I stopped buying after Once upon a time, but all things previous are still in heavy rotation here!

Yeah love the new record. And agree they are on a good strong roll with new studio records, people tend to forget you make music just as good when you are older, not sure why people don't get that people dont make good albums after a certain age or time period, its funny because its reverse for Actors (most), they make the bad movies young and get better with their age or at least respected more,

Was curious if anyone else here was into the Minds. Was a fan back in the day and fell off with Street Fighting Years (in hindsight, it's a good album, but not what my 19 yr old self was wanting at the time). Over the last 12 years I've rediscovered them going back to the beginning and through the newer releases. First step in the right direction was the back-to-SM-basics "Black And White 050505". Graffiti Soul was even better. The best decision they made was to re-release and tour "5x5" (re-releasing first five albums with some bonus tracks and the tour playing five tracks from those five albums). That totally reinvigorated them -- reminding them of their roots. Big Music and now Walk Between Worlds are a product of that. Big Music is/was the best overall album they've produced since Once Upon A Time (if not Sparkle In The Rain). While I expected Walk Between Worlds to be a continuation of Big Music (which it is in some ways), it's different and works very well cohesively on its own. Kerr and Burchill (and co) have definitely recaptured a lot of what made Simple Minds so special from 1980-85. They found themselves again.

edit: hmm, true that there are some songs on there that are going back to the old SM style, but there are too many other songs between those that break the experience. But mostly i can't get into the singing, which has become the weakest link imo. Still, yes, best since Once Upon A Time - but i wont be spinning them much.

That is such a good point. This is why I continue to look for my fave musicians.

Joni Mitchell said to Rolling Stone in 1991 she was glad they started playing her music again, and she swears her 1980s albums wouldn't have been so panned or picked apart if she had a different face and name.

i liked the album ... before the acoustic album ... drawin a blank ... "honest town" was a great song on it ... oh "big music" ... i said that year - it was my fav album that year ...

i am glad the new one is liked by some people here ... i may have to check it out ...

It is true his vocals have softened a lot since the Good News From The Next World album back 95', or atleast he doesn't push his voice anymore.

I'm really liking the new song "Sense of Discovery", has a bit of an "Alive and Kicking" feel to it

It's a great sounding album, so much energy captured within

I like what I heard from the new album, and I agree with what you said regarding veteran artists.
