Absolutely, but neither Prince or Petty saw it that way -- I think they both greatly neglected their health.

I don't think there's any doubt to this observation...

i don't think most of us have really noticed that but now that you mention it, so, he took fentanyl that wasn't prescribed huh?

Pete, check out reply 50 in this thread for a link to the autopsy report.....he was taking legal fentanyl and two other forms, one of which is illegal, a designer drug. I think the family made their statement to try to distract people from noticing that because of course it's right there in the report. It seems to have worked for the most part too.

.

The drugs in Petty's system:

.

1. Fentanyl

2. Oxycodone

3. Temazepam

4. Alprazolam

5. Citalopram

6. Acetylfentanyl

7. Despropionyl fentanyl

.

Good article:

.

Petty was receiving multiple medications that potentiated his risk of overdosing. This dangerous concoction probably didn’t come from a single doctor but from multiple providers. A statewide — ideally nationwide — prescription drug monitoring program could have alerted clinicians about Petty’s list of medications.

Does it really matter if he was in pain anyway. He had a rack of medical issues he was going to need something for his heart, pain, and lung issues. I have not doubt he got everything accept the fake fentenyl from doctors.

Dr. S prescribed stuff for Prince via Kirk that seemed odd for a doctor treating a patient who is dealing pain pill issues. Some of the drugs he wrote for Prince do not go together.

Yes, there is doubt. We have no idea what medical treatments they had or what advice they were given. Some of you cannot accept that people get old and sick and sometimes nothing can be done.

i don't hear that tom petty was dying, i hear that he had a broken hip and was in pain. Prince? I still think it's a good chance he was terminal.

No, it sure doesn't. And, we keep seeing this over and over; another rock star gone, due to illegal opiates. What are these doctors thinking??!! Like the article stated; doctor's need to have a communication open, especially when you have these celebs/rock stars who are "doctor shopping" and have doctors and are getting meds in several states!!

Yes, and what's even more sad about Petty is that this was his "40th Anniversary Tour". He gave us his all, just like Prince did. Although he went sudden, I guess we can take solace in knowing that Petty achieved what he wanted to in life.

I did not mean that literally, my friend. We all know how the book ends, just not how many pages are in it.

Heartbreakingly sad all these opiate overdoses. I would be scared to death being addicted to opiates in this day and age. Messing around with Heroin(and other opiates) has always been a dangerous situation but this new deal is absolutely insane. You really don't know what's in pretty much any of it.

It's devastating, so many shortened lives.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

that's another way to look at it, doing something self destructive like that isn't altogether an "accident" whoever does it. I knew a guy recently, I always thought he took risky chances, he drowned about 9 mos ago swimming out to the middle of a lake, the first thing i thought when i heard it was that he had a death wish. People sometimes are out of touch with their impulses so they might drive crazy or do stupid things in some unconscious attempt to do away with themselves but I think people are just as often aware. One of Elvis' lovers said Elvis admitted he was self-destructive but felt he couldn't do anything about it.

Law enforcement is cracking down on these dealers; it's in the news practically every day. They just made a big bust in Florida; but it seems like an endless battle.

.

The Coast Guard just seized 721M worth of Cocaine off the San Diego coast. They were tracking these dealers from South America.

Simple. A person takes too many pills (mixing too many), or mislabeled pills, such as in Prince's case, thus "accidental".

Pharmaceutical drugs are a necessity for some people with a chronic condition like pain. No one should have to suffer with chronic pain.

That's a very insensitive thing to say confused Try to be a little more sympathetic to people with chronic pain.

—Unless you have access to his medical files you have no ideas. Clogged arteries
and lung ailments do not happen over night. His previous use of drugs put him on the road to death the minute he was prescribed pain meds for his hip.
