Dang. Alicia has been teaming up recently with artists that I don't like - Eminem and now Justin Timberlake.

Justin Timberlake says he "stumbled through" the post-Super Bowl bruhaha. There is a video behind the source link.

source

"I stumbled through it ... to be quite honest, I had my wires crossed," Timberlake said of the 2004 wardrobe malfunction, where he removed a portion of Jackson's clothing, revealing her exposed breast.

"It's just something that you have to look back on and go, 'OK, you can't change what's happened, but you can move forward and learn from it ... It's just one of those things where you go, like, 'Yeah, what do you want me to say?' We're not going to do that again."

Lowe asked whether he and Jackson took time to "resolve the situation" and "make peace of the whole thing" after the wardrobe malfunction. "Absolutely," the singer said, flatly. "I don't know that a lot of people know that. I don't think it's my job to do that because you value the relationships that you do have with people."

The first part of Timberlake's interview with Lowe will air Thursday, January 18th at 1 p.m. EST on Beats 1. Timberlake recently released a behind-the-scenes video documentary about making his upcoming LP, Man of the Woods. This year, he will become the first artist to perform three Super Bowl halftime shows.

Give the things we've talked about in this thread, it's good to hear that they have resolved the bad blood between them. I am still hopeful that she'll show up somehow at this show.

Justin Timberlake “made peace” with Janet Jackson...?
[IMG] Posted by Lainey 12: AM January 17, 2018 http://www.laineygossip.c...dent/48917

This is the headline you will read all day and probably tomorrow. That, after leaving Janet Jackson for dead after the Super Bowl in 2004, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson actually “made peace”. Those aren’t the words that come of out his mouth though. Those are the words that Zane Lowe put in his mouth, to which he replies, “Absolutely”. And then he goes on to say that:

“And I don’t know that a lot of people know that. I don’t think it’s my job to do that because you value the relationships that you do have with people.”

So, like, it was just a secret that he kept, you know? Out of respect for Janet, he didn’t want to go around talking about how they worked it out. OUT OF RESPECT FOR JANET.

Him.

Justin Timberlake.

Respect Janet?

This f-cking guy.
Here. Watch. And then we’ll sh-t on him some more.

How do you “make peace” with someone while watching them get blacklisted, get maligned, their career in the dump for years, as you go on to win awards and make more money? Where is the peace? At no point did Justin Timberlake, when Janet Jackson went from being one of the top entertainers in the business to showbiz pariah, step up and stand in solidarity. Solidarity is peace. Selfishness is not peace.

And to suggest that it happened but that he never revealed it publicly because he “values the relationships” he has with people is not just insulting, what’s worse is that he’s done it again – once again he’s hung her out to dry. Because if Janet comes out to challenge his revisionist version of the story and call him a liar, she’s the one whose looking for a fight. She’s the angry black woman looking for a fight. She’s the angry black woman looking to pick a fight with the soft-spoken Make America Great Again Man Of The Woods sitting in the studio during an interview spewing platitude after platitude for the MiniVan Majority.

“You can’t change what’s happened but you can move forward and learn from it” – that’s a platitude and that’s how Justin Timberlake speaks. It means nothing. Jack sh-t. Because what, exactly, did he learn?

Learning, in this case, would be an acknowledgment: I failed her, I was more concerned for myself, I let her eat most if not all the blame, and, looking back, and understanding, especially historically, how women, and black women in particular are not treated equally, I leaned into my privilege – and this is not OK.

Which… is not at all what he said. All he does is mention his “stumbles”? STUMBLES?

Stumbling is reading out the wrong name on an envelope. What he did wasn’t a stumble, it was an abandonment and then an exploitation. A complete betrayal. Justin Timberlake PROFITED from that situation. You can’t write that off by simply calling it a stumble.

But they’ll let him, won’t they?

Goddamn it, they always do. He always, always floats through. Already he’s floating. Already the way they’re telling this story is HIS version of the story – and not hers. Already and again, Justin Timberlake is owning and controlling the narrative about what happened between him and Janet. As he has done from the very beginning. And now that his version is out there, whatever she has to say will either be a forced corroboration or yet ANOTHER risk SHE will have to assume because he f-cking put her there. Where’s the respect and the “valuing of relationships” when you’re always the one who gets to dictate the relationship?

Enough, Timberlake https://www.laineygossip....ance/48929

Kathleen Posted by Kathleen 12: AM January 19, 2018

Earlier today, I wrote that Justin Timberlake must be actively trying to piss off anyone... attention. It has to be intentional, right? He can't be THIS much of an oblivious, self-serving, egotistical vulture, right? Except that he is. There is no other explanation for his new music video. None.

JT just dropped the visual for his second Man of the Woods single called Supplies and it is an epic display of ignorance. Everyone I know who has watched Supplies has had the same reaction: what did I just watch? This is not one of those “I watched it so you don’t have to” posts. I want you to share in my misery and confusion. Go ahead and meet me on the other side.

The kid yelling, “YOU’RE STILL ASLEEP, WAKE UP” at the end is me. That kid is me yelling at JT’s face. The next time Justin Timberlake releases a new video, can we just have a GIF of this kid saying “we’re good” on loop?

The video appears to be Justin Timberlake's attempt at a dystopian Black Mirror knock off. The dystopian music video has been done so often it's basically a cliche. Every artist has their own post-apocalyptic mini movie (Swift’s Ready For It, Spears’ Till The World Ends and Rihanna’s Disturbia, just to name a few).

That's not the issue here. The issue is the video's references to current social movements like Black Lives Matter and #MeToo. In the clip, we see JT watching the news on various televisions depicting images of Harvey Weinstein, Trump’s face covered by an End Racism Now sign, a glimpse of “We Can’t Breathe” and people holding up #MeToo signs. Oh, Justin Timberlake has decided to use the Black Lives Matter and #MeToo movements to sell albums? Fine. If he's going to co-opt important social conversations for his music videos, he is opening himself up to be questioned and to be challenged on where he stands in said conversations. So, I have questions: where was Justin Timberlake's conviction for black lives when a black woman's career was torpedoed directly because of his actions and inaction in the years after Nipplegate? #NeverForget. Where was Justin Timberlake's power and privilege every time an unarmed black man was shot by police and he was silent?

I'm not done. How does Justin Timberlake get to profit off of #MeToo when he has yet to denounce Woody Allen or even had to answer a f-cking question about Woody Allen? Justin Timberlake can't get mad at these questions or challenges anymore because he just made a music video portraying himself as the Woke Bae saviour of 2018. Pitchfork put it best:

Justin Timberlake’s wok...t save us.

I didn’t think an artist trying and failing to be political could get any more embarrassing than Katy Perry’s “purposeful pop” but Justin Timberlake just proved that it can. It really can.

Oh but at least he's trying to put out a positive message, people will say. At least he's bringing awareness to these movements, they'll add. Justin Timberlake is not the enemy here, his fans will argue. F-ck that. JT does not get a cookie for doing the bare minimum of acknowledging injustice in the world… in a music video he released to promote his album. Let’s not get it twisted – he is jumping on a trend. It is cool to be socially aware. This video is essentially JT’s version of the Kendall Jenner Pepsi ad. So no, Justin Timberlake does not get a pass for repeatedly undermining Jessica Biel’s accomplishments because he wore a Time’s Up pin. He does not get to skate by on a career of cultural appropriation while continually dismissing the critiques of the very people whose culture he scavenged.

He has gotten away with this sh-t for too long. I know this because I let him get away with it by *shudder* being a fan for far too long. But not today, Timberlake. This nonsensical, hollow, tone-deaf, piece of trash video masquerading as a sexy rebellious art piece is ENOUGH.

Finally, here’s my super articulate, high-brow, serious music critic review of Supplies, the song: I heard it for the first time with this bullsh-t video so I f-cking hate it based on principle but also, my official hot take is that it’s f-cking stupid.

First of all that beginning is a rip off a million other artists who have done that TV sets showing the world, Springsteen did it 25 years ago, Bill Joel, also the side group MAX Q and also Inxs did it twice. You see the thing that people don't get is this is why democrats and liberals always lose fucking elections. The elite having opinions when their own careers and behavior is questioned. Now I am far from being a supporter of this current president or anything he says or most of his base of followers, but people like Timberlake are not helping us with elections by all of a sudden being concerned about women's rights and racial equality. People like Timberlake and Katy Perry and others think they are fucking BONO and they are not, you have to put the work in with your views and not just have the views when shit goes down.

Hmmm, those look like big numbers to me.

That's still very low. The first album was released when everyone was selling 15+ million

I'm fairly certain those figures are low on 20/20 Experience - think the first disc alone sold 7m+.

I recall that he was the biggest selling artist in the world in 2013. And his first 2 albums are just about inside the Top 40 biggest sellers this century.

Is the video really THAT serious? LOL. No it is not. I spent more time reading that review than the actual video.
The video was stylish and well made....it looked like a sort of anti illuminati video...then Justin goes Mad Max in the end. Actually this review angered me how serious they took the video more than the video itself. Jeez it was not that serious at all lol.

There is a 20-second clip of the Stapleton duet "Say Something". I dig the clip. As with 20/20, it looks to be a diverse record. "Filthy" is a funk workout, but the Stapleton song sounds like it extends past things like "Drink You Away", etc.

Damn, I’m no Justin fan; however, I hope this project succeeds. The bullshit that I have been reading about him owning Janet respect is sickening. Janet is the reason for the Super Bowl so called “malfunction”. She PLANNED it. It just didn’t have the “Madonna” effect that she hoped for. I don’t know if some of you are too young to actually remember what really happened.
Janet planned this performance to have Shock value. Her brothers Jermaine, Jackie were interviewed by ET before the performance and both said Janet had a surprise planned in her performance. Janet forgot that although she was a media darling, she was not Madonna. She is black and the reaction to her stunt didn’t have the reaction that she PLANNED. According to the designer who designed her jacket, a red lace bra was ATTACHED to her jacket to be torn away and reveal her breast. That is the reason that she had on the starburst nipple ring. There was no wardrobe malfunction. Janet knew that her nipple would be exposed. You can bet that if the reaction had been what SHE anticipated, we wouldn’t be blaming Justin.
I would have more respect for Janet if she had told the truth and admitted that this stunt was planned and not pretend that she didn’t know her nipple would be exposed. She has kept up this lie and pretended innocence all this time.
Bottomline is that it is not Justin’s fault that the PUBLIC and media reacted the way it did. FTR, if Justin brings Janet out at Super Bowl, he will have bowed to pressure from Janet fans, when she was the architect of the so-called malfunction.
My respect for him would be zero. Why do something for JJ fans when they are going to dog him if he does or doesn’t have her at SB? Of course, I’m looking for him to
Include her just to shut up the hatered and negativity. Hopefully, he is stronger than that because JJ fans have never supported him anyway.

This is a portion of the article:

“Before the Super Bowl, Jermaine Dupri, Jackson’s boyfriend, was telling people that the singer was going to do something sexually explicit, according to an insider. He was saying, “don’t watch the halftime concert unless you want to see something very R-rated,” says the source.

Dupri’s spokeswoman didn’t return calls and his agent’s office told The Scoop, “No comment.”

Dupri is known for saying shit that ain't true. Repeatedly, especially about Janet - even when he was with her. I remember him saying this.

Here's the real argument: Janet had never, ever done anything like that before for publicity. It was Madonna who did the SEX book and Janet shaded her with "We try to do things with a bit more class". Janet is fucking Janet. She doesn't need a stunt to sell records. In fact, she didn't even have a record out at that point, nor a single. (Well, she had a single, but because of the way it leaked, they were forced to make it a single.) It was very out of character for her. There is no way it was planned to expose her breast. The nipple ring is a cheap argument. Any Janet fan knowns she was all about her piercings for a few years (somewhere between janet and The Velvet Rope), so the fact that she had something on her nip wasn't a surprise nor evidence that she was going to expose her titty.

If wonky eye meant that the red bra would show through with the reveal, then that's R-rated. Not a bra, but the visual of a red bra sticking out of one side of a black outfit. The eye would be drawn to it. What happened was X-rated.

Dupri also said they were going to get married and have a baby, but none of that was ever even close to being true. I don't know what she ever saw in that troll. He fucked up her music, her bigger appeal as a pop/R&B artist. He just needs to forever shut his flap trap.

Let’s not forget that this planned stunt was right after the VMA awards where Madonna kissed Britney and Christina and the media and public were going crazy. If Janet had pulled this stunt on the VMA awards it may have possibly elicited the shock value that she wanted. However, with her being the “media darling”, she actually thought that her stunt would have the same effect as Madonna. What she did NOT anticipate was that her stunt was during a Super Bowl game where families/children were watching. The reaction was going to be different from the VMA’s. Besides, Janet forgot that although she was a “media darling”, she was black and the public and media didn’t treat her the same as they would have done Britney or Madonna. Btw, there is no way in hell that Justin knew that Janet was going to expose her breast. You can bet he thought that her red bra would be exposed. Of course, the designer of her costume said that her jacket was specifically made with bra ATTACHED to her jacket. A person doesn’t have to be a genius to KNOW that you don’t attach a bra to a jacket, if you only want to tear away the jacket and expose the bra. This is the reason that it took Janet two days to say anything. She had to come up with a “malfunction story”. Justin IMMEDIATELY apologized for the incident. Of course, his look of surprise, leads me to think that was duped by Janet. I am still waiting for someone to tell me why Justin needs to apologize for something Janet planned. IF Janet had told the truth about this stunt, I truly think she wouldn’t have been treated the way she was. Everyone, but her fans, knew she was lying about what happened; yet, she has allowed her fans to believe that Justin threw her under the bus. Man, if he forgives her for doing that, he is a sucker. Again, I hope he doesn’t appease her fans and have her appear with him at the SB. However, I am looking for him to do just that. If it were me, I wouldn’t. She used him for a stunt that didn’t get the results, SHE wanted.

You're comparing apples & onions. Madonna & girls at VMA is nothing like an exposed red bra at the Super Bowl. They're both meant to get attention, but one went horribly wrong. Although, if you ask Christina, it went horribly wrong for her too because she was so rarely mentioned in kissygate.

You're assuming Janet meant to flop out her titty but was surprised by the reaction. You're 100% wrong in that assumption. It's been well established that she was never meant to be nude in any fashion. You don't know that the bra was attached to the jacket. It's a costume, so it's made different anyway. But to have that purposely able to be detached wouldn't even be good engineering. Why walk the line of a major "oops, my bad" moment? If the jacket was all she was wearing, then the corset was built into the jacket and could have been accidentally ripped off by Justin in the energy of the moment.

Janet apologized in protest and later said she regretted it, damn near taking it back. She should have never apologized, IMO. Not like that. A simple explanation of what went wrong was enough, but to be made to cower was ridiculous. Up to the point someone hit record, she said, "What am I apologizing for? This was an accident."

If it was a true stunt to expose a titty, why would you apologize for it at all? If she was such a media darling (she wasn't, she just had a great career going), she could have ridden it out and defended it, brushed it off and moved on. The problem was the apology which put an air of admitting it was purposeful over the whole thing. It's really muddled to think "okay we're going to rip this off, expose my breast (which I've never done before), then if there is a backlash we'll just apologize for it". If you do something, you fucking own it. Even Madonna, who has posed naked on purpose, did videos naked, etc., and basically said, "Who cares?!". She owned it and moved on, never apologizing for anything she did. Her career continued to soar. Janet has posed nude, but not exposed her muff or her tits. Come close, but we'd yet to see a nipple or a landing strip. In fact, she said she was very embarrassed when the paparazzi caught video of her in the privacy of her home and yard sunbathing nude. Gaga can put out a shit documentary and sit around topless and no one said a word.

Frankly, I think it was all based in racism more than the mere idea of seeing a tit. I've just shown that above, btw.

.

But why wear an Christmas ornament on said-titty if no one is meant to see it?

.

Was the stage direction that at "Gonna have you naked by the end of this song" Timberlake was to pull furiously at her top and fail? The grab was deliberate. He was reaching at his cue for his cue.

That sounds like a news commentator's ideology.

Why wear red underwear or funky boxers if no one is going to see them? Or a cock piercing? or any nipple piercing?

The grab was deliberate, the tit was not.

More someone with eyes and cognitive ability. If the lyric were "gonna pull my dick out by the end of this song" then a boom and Janet had exposed his buttocks that would have been a mistake.

It's ridiculous to think they were going to literally get her naked at the end of the song. It's a national network telecast. They're bold, not stupid. They are well aware of FCC fines, possible boycotts, etc etc. It's just insane to think they purposely whipped her tit out. I get that people love to get in the mud with stuff like this, especially if it involves someone they don't particularly care for, but the truth is the truth. Logic always wins out.

Besides, if they said "pull my dick out" and exposed his butt, that's just ass backwards. lol tonk boff

Well Britney's image still took a hit. Nothing compared to the backlash Janet recieved for the Super Bowl but then again I still think the backlash Britney recieved in 2007 (admittedly for more personal than professional discretions) easily exceeds anything ever done by black peers Janet, Whitney Houston or Beyonce. (Only Michael Jackson stands alone in media scrutiny)

.

Now many people say well Britney made more of a comeback unlike the more talented Janet and Whitney due to being white. No. The reason she made a bigger comeback than both is because she was far more profitable to make money off of a 'comeback story' than either Janet or Whitney. Being white probably has something to to with that but it only reinforces her entire career in the entertainment industry as that of a product.
