There was a Comedian on BET's "Comic View" who joked that Freddie Jackson sang "You Are My Lady" to Luther Vandross!! It was FUNNY AS HELL back then, but not now. No one NEEDED to out Luther THEN or NOW. At the end of the Day, it's all about the Music!! And Mr. Vandross did His thang!! What I REALLY want 2 know is WHY Aretha Franklin dissed the sh*t outta Patti LaBelle at the White House? Someone should ask her THAT!!!! "Why did it end this waaaaaaaaaay?"

eek

That's too bad Luther struggled with coming out--his fans affectionately knew he was gay for years. Just like Manilow fans knew he was gay (duh!), as well as other male performers worried about their images.

Despite what society has taught us, being gay does not just boil down to performing a sexual act.

What does your comment have to do with my comment about Luther keeping his personal life to himself?

"Some people make a choice to keep their private sex life to themselves" - this is what I was addressing.

I miss Luther... his final album is another one of a handful where I can listen to every song. Sad that he had his stroke and couldn’t enjoy his success.... most artists his age/era were dwindling on the charts, not improving. DWMF was a great album.

Ms. Patti's BIG MOUTH strikes again...When I saw the clip last week all I could do was shake my head..Andy is known to throw in surprise questions and we don't know if they did a pre-interview or not...Maybe he warned her in advance, maybe not...We can cut the Host some slack...

Patti tells people upfront that she is NOT gonna talk about the last two 40yr old Brothers that she Dated...It's her bizness, her life and she let's the Media say what they wanna say about her current Drummer Boy-toy...We are not gonna argue with her about her Man...

But her BIG AZZ MOUTH thinks it's Cool to go on shows and talk about other folks bizness..At least Mariah is alive, but Damn, Luther is Dead and can't defend all the Shit she spewed..."I'm Patti I can saw whatever I want about other folks"...

Patti was wrong for disclosing private conversations she had with Luther and she did The Vandross Family wrong...Years ago Patti ran her BIG AZZ MOUTH telling people that she was gonna take care of the Vandross family while claiming she's good friends with Luther's nieces & nephews...

Guess what Ms. Patti, you owe The Vandross Family a PUBLIC apology...They never asked her BIG AZZ MOUTH to go on TV and OUT Luther like she did...She did a Dirty Bitch move on Andy's show..

I will Always Love Patti but I will NEVER cut her slack when she runs that Bitch AZZ mouth of hers...She need to shut the Fuck up and talk about that Stank-S-Curl wearing Drummer boyfriend she happily Fucking...She too Proud to talk about that 40yr old Dick that she's getting on the regular but she wanna BRAG about the Dick Luther was or was not getting...

Yeah, Twitter went for her AZZ like we were supposed to....She too Damn old to be so Damn Sloppy..

She was asked a question and answered it. You know the big secret we already knew.

Also her young boyfriend was on her reality show about a decade okay so she was not keeping him a secret and what does who she is dating have to do with the question she was asked?

I believe Pharell came out as gay after "Happy" was a hit. I don't think he's had any hits since. biggrin Then, we have Rahsaan Patterson who finally came out a few years ago but he was always more of an underground R&B artist. So, really never any mainstream out R&B singers, not like Elton John, George Micheal, Sam Smith, K.D. Lang and Melissa Ethridge.

Pharrell has been married to Helen Lasichanh since 2013 and they had a son in 2008 and triplets this year. Don't make stuff up.

LOL In what universe? Dude's straight, married, with children. In fact, in a 2014 interview, he talked about the women on the front of G I R L (which people said were all white and that he was white-washing his music because of a fucking CD cover), and said in part:

What really disappointed me is that, man, they jumped the gun. She's [a woman on the cover] a black girl from Wisconsin I used to date over 10 years ago, maybe 12 years ago. My mom is a black woman and is a huge part of my business. My business is run by another black woman and I'm married to a black woman. What are you talking about?

So no, he ain't gay. And he hasn't had an album of his own out since 2014's G I R L. He scored a little movie called Hidden Figures in 2016 that he probably worked on in 2015, a year after G I R L died down a bit. He was also a composer for three little movies called Despicable Me (1, 2, & 3). So, I suppose it's how you define "a hit". His production discography is crazy with folks like Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vent, 2 Chains, etc etc. Brotha's gettin' p a i d.

Well, perhaps what I was reading was fake news. lol I'm not a fan so I don't follow him. I do remember reading an interview a couple of years ago where he was quoted as saying he was a proud gay man.

And I wish Dana would just SAY it. She's been hanging with her "trainer" for years and yars. She did sort of come out at Long Beach Pride a few years ago. Then retracted. The Inquister first reported:

Queen Latifah, whose sexuality has been a main target for bloggers alike finally came out at the parade, but she did it on her own terms surrounded by love and support, saying “I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time,” and later on adding that she was “proud to be among my people.”

Then they wrote this days later:

But Latifah said that it isn’t true. The actress told Entertainment Weekly that she didn’t declare her sexuality on stage and she won’t be talking about her sexuality to the public anytime soon.

“I don’t have a problem discussing the topic of somebody being gay, but I do have a problem discussing my personal life… I don’t care if people think I’m gay or not. Assume whatever you want. You do it anyway.”

Queen Latifah said that she supported the LGBT community and loves to play at gay nightclubs and pride parades, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that she’s a lesbian.

She added:

“To me, doing a gay pride show is one of the most fun things. My first show that paid more than $10,000 was in a gay club on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco. When people are going through hatred and bullying, the biggest thing to fight that is love… So that’s all I encouraged my audience to do that night: to share their light and share their love. Period.”

Girl, you ghey az fuq.

He sung music that was for love between woman and man..or a man and his woman.

It doesn't matter if you think he's straight. He wasn't. He liked men, not women. The tone of your post suggests accepting that reality would make it harder for you to enjoy his music, which is a damn shame. His music wasn't really about love between men and women. Those may have been the words, but the passion and emotion behind his singing came from his own personal experience, which was love between two men. Nothing wrong with that. People need to stop being such closed-minded bigots, it destroys people's lives. It's very common for closeted gay singers to write songs about their love interests and then change the lyrics to make it sound like it was about a woman. You don't have to accept it, but it's the truth.

Love Patti. Had Luther been here today, I think his lifestyle would have been more accepted. I'm so sorry that he had to keep his real self locked-up inside. I think his fans already knew, and it didn't matter back then, nor does it matter now, because we still love him and it's all about the music, and really none of our business what he did in his private life.

Patti was on no mission. Mama was in the house with another big old gal, Andy Cohen, who always brings up the gay stuff (big deal). Luther's mother has passed, so Patti is doing no harm. Not like everyone didn't know. Hell he was singing Dionne Warwick's catalog ..big clue.. not to mention Brenda Russell, Karen Carptener etc... This is long before today, where we have male contestants (queens) on these singing competition shows singing Beyonce and Whitney... Different era, different time...

Being gay is not a "lifestyle" any more than being black or Korean is one.

It's about the music...Not his sexuality.
I bought his albums for the music, his voice...his style..his sound..
When I listen to his music..I get something different out of it...then maybe what you get..

He didn't force his lifestyle on us..
So that's why I said...those lyics spoke to me as a straight man in love with women...And we as listeners think an artist speaks to us..

So..If you think he was singing for homosexual relationships..that is your right..
The music wouldn't be the same tho if he replaced those lyics from women to men..

.

Whenever I hear a Vandross song, I'm not saying in my head "oh, wasn't he gay?" eek

.

It's about the music and it always has been.

.

Besides, most of his fans already knew about it, but just didn't say it out loud, because it didn't matter that he was.

Adorecream

This thread is sad, we have a gay guy calling himself a pole smoker (Really sad and shows they have no self esteem), and someone else convinced he was straight as he sang about straight love.

.

Newsflash - Elton John sang songs about girls for the first 25 years of his career (1967 - 1992) and even on his coming out album - The one, there are song called "What women need" and "When a woman dosen't want you". Luther Vandross was the product of a homphobic and hateful culture called Christianity. Unfortunately some people take it too seriously, it is a poson and archaic bullshit that has no place in our modern and socialistic society.

.

Whether he was gay or not, who cares as long as he found someone he could love, is all that matters. Sexuality has never been an issue to me, love is a fluid concept that does not subscribe to human imposed bogotry and limitations.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
