More Grammys for Janet

If you could turn back time and give Janet more Grammys than the 5 she has what would you give her from her multiple nominations?

I would give her best rock vocal female for black cat
Best female r&b vocals for I get lonely
Best musical accompaniment with vocals for rn
Something in the control era though it was such a good musical year

I know some of these aren't remembered by general public and we're considered period pieces, but the production value accounted for something

Unless I am wrong Janet should have been nominated in the Album of the Year category for RN 1814, janet and The Velvet Rope nod

Did none of her albums from Control to Velvet Rope get nominated for AotY? Wow.

I'm pretty sure control was nominated for album of the year and possibly RN.

Only Control was nominated for Album of the Year. Paul Simon's Graceland won in 1987.

Yep. I remember thinking she was robbed in '87. No disrespect to Paul, because he had a great year too.

I believe it was the 1989 Grammys when Bonnie Raitt's "Nick of Time" won AOTY. You are correct. I could've sworn "JJRN1814" was at least nominated that year. I assumed/remembered wrong! lol This robbery was even worse than in '87. At least she was in the game that year. Grand Larceny! disbelief lol

In 1990, the year Rhythm Nation would have been eligible, here are the LPs nominated for album
of the year:

Don Henly - The End of Innocence
Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw and the Cooked
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever
Traveling Wilburys - Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1
Bonnie Raitt - Nick of Time

There are two albums on that list that do not fucking belong. While I absolutely adore Bonnie Raitt,
NoT is not more enjoyable or as musically interesting as RN.

. . . by the way, I always thought Rhythm Nation was the best album ever created by anyone
with the surname "Jackson" and hailing from Gary, IN.

It truly is a perfect album start to finish and the strongest in her catologue smile

Nick of Time deserved it's win. It's a masterpiece. Listen to it on spotify if you haven't heard it.

I don't think it did.

Look, I love Bonnie Raitt and I am happy that she won. But Nick of Time is nothing extraordinary;
the album that came afterwards (Luck of the Draw) is much better, in my opinion. However, Rhythm
Nation was the apex of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' Minneapolis sound, which influenced so many 80's
bands. Plus, something has to be said about J&L being solely responsible for the songwriting and pro-
duction of RN while Raitt usually relies upon various songwriters to help her craft an album. The al-
bums I believe shouldn't have been nominated were from Don Henley and the Fine Young Cannibals
and the Traveling Wilburys - all "meh" offerings in my opinion.

I'm saying this as someone who, like I said, adores Bonnie Raitt. I don't think there is a bigger fan
of hers at the Org than me!

And they say janet copied michael ? lol even he knew she was the shit!!!

Janet seems most respected by the academy for her music videos, mind you in the same era as mj and madonna, and I noticed mainly the ones addressing injustices were recognized! I think the current tour is in the right direction, and though she has nothing to prove, another album with theme like RN or VR, even some of the subject matter on the janet. album (domestic violence, race) would be great though it seems like most underground artists have taken a page from janet and are doing the same, as with hip hop that doesn't make the masses.

As for RN, it was nominated for r&b album of the year at the grammys but didn't win.

I did see that her 4 albums were all award winning anyways outside the grammys, and notably control and rn did win r&b female album of the year at the soul train awards, as did mj bad and dangerous there at soul train; though I also feel like these were almost in response to not winning (deserving) grammys for those and deserving bigger due for worldwide impact
