U know. .. He's gonna be playing it AND TALKING BOOK in their entirety at this year's HOUSE FULL OF TOYS benefit concert; being held at STAPLES CENTER this year instead of the usual Nokia/Microsoft. Got my tickets two weeks ago. If you're a fan, this is a can't miss thing

Thought I was in heaven seeing him perform Songs In The Key of Life from beginning to end; sorry I'm going to miss out on this one!

A wonderful album. Livin and Visions are my two favorites off this album. For me his best album is Talkin Book.

Love this album and love this era of Stevie. His Wonderlove band was my second favorite but I really just love most of his music.

This is why Stevie's 70's run is the greatest in small-r rock history.

Each album from Music of My Mind to Songs In The Key of Life , standing alone, would be the crowning achievement of almost any other artist's career.

He made them consecutively.

We all have our favorite of that era, but this thread is about Innervisions, and it's simply beautiful.

I'm sure it's been discussed before...

but why isn't there any "NEW" (even OLD/NEW) Stevie music being released?

Is he having issues with his contract? I'd heard years ago at Humphrey's by the bay, talki of his new music etc. and then again on every subsequent tour.

he's even played numerous "freebies" of new material throughout the close of several shows.. (first one that comes to mind "keep foolin yourself")

and he's got projects

1) The Gospel According to Eulah May (announced on his 2008 return to touring)

2) Visions from the eyes of Stevie WOnder (something like that)

3) Orchestral album

4) Fullfilllingness' First Finale Part II

...I've heard talk of him doin one with Tony Bennett as welll... (I love Tony.... that would be an instant smash)

I would love to know about any outtakes from Innervisions. I remember reading that "Boogie On Reggae Woman" was recorded during the sessions.

well... 3 of these *(unless he just changed their names) were NEW...not old unreleased.

Sure he'd probably have some old unreleased cuts reworked on em...but, I'm wondering what happened? This has been going on for about 10 years

That's my point--artists like Stevie and Springsteen have done new albums that never get released for whatever reason. Maybe at some point they'll release them in a box set like Dylan did.

Unfortunately, this is the way Stevie has been since about 1980. He took his time on Secret Life of Plants (released 1979), but that was sort-of understandable after his incredible run in the 70s and the double-album (plus EP) in late 1976. (The mainstream-disco era was indeed a good time to take a little breather.) After the Plants thing was a bit of a commercial dud, Motown/Stevie conspired to get another record out quickly, and so Hotter Than July (1980) was out soon after, to strong sales and a pretty good reception.

Ever since, Stevie has been slow as molasses to release new studio albums... with the notable exception of the small-ish pause between In Square Circle (1985, which itself took five years to appear) and Characters (1987), though neither were anywhere near his best work.

In the exactly 30 years since Characters, Stevie has issued only two(!) stand-alone studio albums. Even when considering the Jungle Fever soundtrack, it's three albums in thirty years.

I am a little worried about if Stevie has his affairs in order, in preparation for the day when he's no longer with us. I'm not sure if he's been surrounded by the best people, and I won't trust anything that Berry Gordy has his hands in. I just hope all this music he's been laying down won't (a) go into the trash-bin completely or (b) get tastelessly released to cash-in on his passing with no rhyme or reason.

Yes, clearly one of the great albums of the 1970s and one of Stevie's best, indeed maybe his very best. "Golden Lady" is my favorite.

Example: Franz Kafka. Ordered all his writing to be destroyed upon his death. Today, his photo appears on ads for cans of coffee here in Tokyo.

Interesting. But u left out THE WOMAN IN RED (*maybe for good reason; but I'm thinking of actually enjoy a time travel with that tonight and pretend I'm in the 80's again) also the original piece he did for the library of congress. I'm on an OLD mobile, do i won't link. You'd do well to download it. I see your point though. I'd always considered his last work to be the BAMBOOZLED soundtrack to be his last work although that's only 2 songs. I don't count the snoop dogg stuff or other guesting bits except maybe BRAND NEW DAY because his sonic imprint is so significant to the track. I hope he releases some of them. Maybe I'll bug him about it if i ever run into him again. Usually I'd think that's rude but not now

I think that Stevie, like a lot of other artists, knows that his best out put was "magical" as Bob Dylan said about his best songs-they just seem to flow from some place driven by the artist, the context of the time (which can be timeless), and the restless urgent creativity of youth (which no one wants to acknowledge). Just a thought...

Stevie undoubtedly has a treasure trove of unreleased tracks he's been sitting on for decades. It just boggles my mind that his last album of new material came out back in 2005.

He tends to enjoy performing over releasing albums, and building momentum from his well-known hits. He's probably sees music making as a therapeutic process vs. making it for the msses, and knows his worth.

I think it's his best album also, even though my personal favourite is Talking Book.

Stevie's one of the few living artists whose only competition is himself. So I can understand why he's in no hurry to release new music.
