Beck - Colors

Beck's new album, 'Colors' is out today. It's been a long wait but it sounds good!

He was on BBC 6 radio yesterday and was talking about Prince for the last couple of minutes: http://www.bbc.co.uk/prog...s/p05jrhlb

As long as it's not racist I might buy it. I liked his last album Morning Phase maybe his best smile

It's titled "Colors", not "Races".

It's multi-coloured. Slightly racist against the British because of the spelling.

I bought it. It's very bland and nondescript. I've played it through once and have no desire to play it again so it's gone straight on the shelves with all the others. I've been a big Beck fan since the late 90s, seen him live countless times, but either he's lost me or I've lost him.. I watched this week's Jools Holland performance online and it was really dull and lifeless, the guitarist was leaping about like 20 years ago but it just looked awkward and forced. At least the new Morrissey album is looking good from what I've heard! 😀

Hope it's good. I am a Beck fan. I felt like Morning Phase was just a re-do of the classic Sea Change. Hoping for good things on this one, liked the single that came out months ago.

Morning Phase had better melodies. Sea Change sounded like he needed a sea change confused

been a fan of his since 1996 and liked almost everything he's released. some stuff
he does is just good and some stuff he does is simply amazing.

this album leaves me scratching my head. the title track is great. but most of the
other songs are just so generic eek and they sound so much alike eek wtf? i'm not
used to this from beck.

there's a great ep of music here, but the rest was not exactly worth the long wait.
especially since dreams and wow are so old by now compared to the other songs.

i'd rather have had an album of that 'defriended', 'gimme', 'i won't be long', 'cities',
'spiral staircase' stuff, mixed with a bit of 'blue randy' and 'wide open'/'time wind'.

Here's an excerpt from Steve Parke's new book, "Picturing Prince."

"Larry Graham and Prince were sitting on the couch in the kitchen area watching "The Late Show With David Letterman. I'd come down to make some tea, and Prince said to come join them.....

We'd recently watched Beck singing his clearly Prince-inspired "Debra" on a New Year's show, where Beck lay face down on the stage and pulled on his boot just like Prince had done in "Purple Rain."

"I don't get it," Prince said, to my surprise."

lol

Prince doesn't dig parody no no no!

Not sure there's one great song on Midnite vultures to be fair. Debra ain't even it.
