Bootsy helped invent a kind of music. Bruno and Gambino just help celebrate it. They all have their place but lets not confuse who is doing what here.

Well said.

it seemed like with Sugarfoot though, that was his more or less his natural vocal tone, while Bootsy was a little more over-the-top and exagerrated with it...

Sigh, Boostsy was making fun of Jimi Hendrix that is how the Bootsy voice came about.

I am not sure Sugarfoot was spoofing Jimi. He said he just was made the singer after Junie got bounced from the group. I think he was just tryig to compensate for not having much of a voice.

thats cool and thanks for sharing, but why are you sighing?...you basically agreed with me, while adding already known details...

How come What´s a Telephone Bill , also by Bootsy, sounds almost exactly like this song? Was it a b-side or a part II of this song, like Prince´s Get Off and Violet the Organ Grinder? Or Come and 18 and Over? Or were they considered two totally different songs , and singles, back in the day?

I like them both equally.

And Donald Glover's fucked up voice is an improvement to you? Ha Ha Ha

"Redbone" is a better song, in my ears... im a fan of both men... neither one of them are great "singers"...and Bootsy's career dwarfs anything Gambino has done musically...i just think "Redbone" outdoes its genetic predecessor... now if we were talking about "Bootzilla", or "Bootsy, Whats The Name Of This Town?", then Gambino cant touch it...

How can the remake of a song be better then the original?

This happens pretty frequently, but the remakes are usually so much better that most people don't realize they're remakes. Whitney Houston was pretty famous for it. Personally, it's rare I don't prefer an Isley Brothers remake. However, in this particular case, I'm taking Bootsy.

I guess you could call "Telephone Bill" a part 2, a continuation of "Id Rather Be With You". Very similar, I think Bootsy even drops a line about "Id Rather Be With You"...but you are correct...both are good!

Make it so, Number One...

Because Bootsy was not being over the top he was kind of making fun of Jimi's spaced out voice. If anything he was taking it down a notch.

If you want the ultimate Bootsy slow jam cue up Munchies For Your Love. I'd also give Sacred Flower a spin.

Plus, Bootsy's Rubber Band live circa 77-78 may very well be the all time funk performance by any band before or since.

...and thats just a snippet of Bootsy's ever present vocal shenanigans... so yeah...Bootsy was never over the top?..."taking it down a notch" because Jimi was such a clownish, cartoonish, comedic, character?..and Bootsy was somehow "down a notch" from Jimi's more serious and somber vocal stylings?...OK laurarichardson...if you say so... u must not listen to much Jimi Hendrix
