Generation X: The Most Cynically Depressed Generation Ever? (Redux)

With the apparent suicide of Chris Cornell, could this be the last of the Generation X rock gods to perish under a marose cloud of toxic cynicism?

I embraced grunge and cynical detatchment back in the 90's. It spoke to me. But with the early destruction of such highly visible lives going one after the other it's hard to get behind a movement that seems to be so destructive.

I wonder, after all this time, if the generation left it's ironic detatchment behind. It seemed like we embraced the consumerist culture that we were shut out of back in the 90's but maybe I was wrong. Maybe ironic detatchment and world-worn cynicism is something you don't easily outgrow.*

*Unfortunately we can now add Chester Bennington to the list.
