R. Kelly Is Holding Women Against Their Will In A “Cult,” Parents Told Police

Backstage at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, on May 23, 2015, J. was thrilled that her 19-year-old daughter’s music career was going to make a major leap forward from recording demos and performing at talent shows to the chance of stardom — thanks to the help of an R&B superstar.

“When we got to go backstage with R. Kelly, we stayed there over two hours,” said J. “One-on-one with just me and my daughter and him. We went back to talk about the music. He listened to her CD. He was going to help her with her CD, and I was really impressed with him at first, because I have always been an R. Kelly fan.”

J. said that Robert “R.” Kelly, who turned 50 in January, met her daughter backstage at a concert in Atlanta earlier that month. Soon enough, he’d invited her to fly out to the Indio concert on his dime. J. said she’d heard about past sexual misconduct accusations against Kelly, but wasn’t overly worried. She is a fiercely devoted stage mom — she and her husband of 22 years, Tim, a car dealer, had moved from Memphis to Atlanta to help their eldest child’s career — and was confident she could protect her daughter.

“In the back of our minds, we were thinking [my daughter] could be around him if I was with her,” J. said. “It didn’t really hit home. Even with the Aaliyah situation, now that I think about it, ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number’ ... but you don’t think about that. You grew up with the song, and you like the song.”

Two years later, J. and Tim are in a desperate fight to bring their daughter home. (BuzzFeed News verified their identities and full names in public records, but is withholding the alleged victim's full name and her parents' last name to protect her privacy.)

All I have to say is given R Kelly's history it's easy to throw around an acusation such as this. But to know of such history and STILL allow your teen-aged daughter to be mentored by him without being by her side 24/7???

I'm getting shades of Michael Jackson here...

R. Kelly is by no means a paragon of virtue, but if he's a human trafficking ring leader, why haven't the authorities been notified?

...this article is about what parents said to the police. They have been notified.

R. Kelly is the subject o...- LA Times

R. Kelly is the subject of new round of sexual misconduct allegations

Singer R. Kelly is facing a new round of accusations of sexual misconduct by parents of several women over the age of consent who contend that he is holding their daughters as sex slaves, according to a BuzzFeed report by veteran Chicago journalist Jim DeRogatis.

The women's parents have enlisted the help of local police and the FBI in attempts to regain contact with their children, but have largely been unable to proceed because law enforcement officials say the women are legally free to engage in consensual relationships.

A representative for Kelly's record label, RCA Records, did not immediately respond to The Times' request for comment on Monday.

The lengthy BuzzFeed report is written by DeRogatis, the former Chicago Sun-Times reporter who in 2000 broke the story of Kelly's alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. She was believed to be the subject of a sex tape that was anonymously sent to DeRogatis in 2002 and then turned over to Chicago police.

Kelly was subsequently acquitted on charges of having sex with a minor. He has settled multiple lawsuits involving sexual misconduct allegations.

In the BuzzFeed story, Kelly is accused of holding several women against their will at homes he owns in Illinois, where the age of consent is 17, and in Georgia, where the age of consent is reached at age 16.

DeRogatis interviewed several of the parents as well as three women identified as former members of Kelly's inner circle --Cheryl Mack, Kitti Jones and Asante McGee -- who accuse Kelly of exerting "mind control" over the women who are staying in those residences.

The story alleges that Kelly imposes strict rules of conduct on young women mostly in their late teens and early to mid-20s, limiting their ability to contact anyone but him and his entourage and punishing those who violate any of those rules.

According to Mack, Jones and McGee, Kelly "controls every aspect of their lives: dictating what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records," DeRogatis writes.

He also notes that "the law says that consenting adults may take part in any relationship they want, no matter how nontraditional. Welfare checks by police in both Illinois and Georgia in the past year didn’t lead to any charges; in January, the aspiring singer from Georgia told Cook County police she was 'fine and did not want to be bothered.'”

I totally get where you're coming from, but let me offer this to any soul reading today...

You always have to take the side of the alleged victims until something is proven otherwise. Society is all too quick to doubt a person who speaks out about a sexual crime, blame them, and somehow rally behind the accused. We can't err on the wrong side of history like that. Now I get that there are a lot of bullshitters out there who want a minute in the spotlight, but we can't let that make us cynical to all those who do come forward with a story of rape or abuse.

I, too, would like concrete evidence, but the implication of not believing the victim(s) in the above statement is dangerous to everyone involved. R. Kelly is a deviant, so there could be some weight to the story. Rick James did the same shit. As much as we love our celebrities, they're as dark and twisted as anyone else could be at any given time, especially when they live a life that offers them money, privilege, privacy, and everyone is kissing their ass to make a buck off of them. Someone has to be enabling this action, should it turn out to be truth.

Is R. Kelly guilty? Let's find out. One way or the other, let's find out the truth. Until then, when it comes to anyone saying they've been raped or abused or molested, we simply have to take their side and investigate to find out the truth. They have to know that once they're proven correct, that someone believed them, didn't dismiss them, demote them to a golddigger, and stood up with them.

I understand completely and there was a hint of presumption in my post.

My point was he is the EASIEST of targets, and like someone said he only has himself to blame.

How about we take no side. If we automatically assume he's guilty and it turns out to be false, half the people will still believe the accusation! Some will believe it even if there's no evidence whatsoever to verify to accusation.

I'm shocked it's a 20 year old.

They are legally grown, I understand the parent's concern but until the actual "victim" opens their mouth, not much else can be done.

It must not be unusual in that universe for parents to sign over their children.
