She is a fiercely devoted stage mom — she and her husband of 22 years, Tim, a car dealer, had moved from Memphis to Atlanta to help their eldest child’s career — and was confident she could protect her daughter.

The mother .......... FAIL !! Failed to 'protect' her daughter. Past sexual misconduct or not, the safety of her daughter should of come FIRST, again FAIL.

WOW. It's not that I didn't believe what SoulAlive said, but I was waiting for someone else to corroborate her/his statement. The cruising for teenage girls certainly is consistent with his prior history. There's a saying, from Dr. Phil and possibly others, that "The best predictor of future behavior is relevant past behavior."

Commentary by Melody Charles: It's beyond time to get off the R. Kelly train

"People who shut their eyes to reality simply invite their own destruction, and anyone who insists on remaining in a state on innocence long after that innocence is dead turns himself into a monster." #JamesBaldwin

If you’ve been plugged in to social media today, then you already know the news about R. Kelly: The award-winning, 50-year-old singer, songwriter and performer is again making headlines for more than just a tour. After years of rumor and decades of innuendo, and a trial in 2008, Kelly is now being scrutinized by law enforcement after accusations by parents that the R&B superstar is now isolating and abusing six young women, keeping them apart from their loved ones with manipulation and sequestering them in on-site, sex-driven cults.

In harrowing detail, credible news sources including Rolling Stone, Billboard and Business Insider have shared the testimony of peers and guardians alike, all of them recalling initially-innocent encounters with the Chicago-born superstar in their star-struck pursuit of an autograph, a photo or even help in securing a record deal. But apparently, in secret, Kelly maintained contact with the women and enticed them to leave their homes and schools. According to one report, three former members of Kelly’s entourage----Asante McGee, Kitti Jones and Cheryl Mack----confirmed to witnessing the women being held in private properties in Atlanta and Chicago; “They said six women live in properties rented by Kelly….dictating what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in sexual encounters that he records.” One parent, despite her awareness of the infamous 2002 sex tape, the 2008 trial and the rumors plaguing him before and after the acquittal, characterized herself as having “always been an R. Kelly fan” and confident she and her husband could protect their then-17-year-old daughter “if I was with her.” But within a few months of reaching the age of consent, their now-19-year-old moved to be with Kelly and hasn’t seen her family since 2016.

What do each of the complainants have in common? All of the parents now regret entrusting the young women with the entertainer and were aware of, yet overlooked, R. Kelly’s alleged history of sexual deviancy. Reports have been filed and multiple agencies are investigating, but at this writing, none of the young women are cooperating. They’re claiming, according to family, to be with Kelly by choice.

As a parent myself and the mother of two daughters, these allegations are heartbreaking and horrific. I cannot imagine the pain their loved ones are going through, having awareness of what’s going on and desperate to get their daughters away from the self-proclaimed ‘Pied Piper of R&B.’ But I also must ask, as a woman and a mother, what were they thinking? They knew about his marriage to the late, under-aged Aaliyah, the ‘secret rooms’ in his home that even his former wife had no access to, that sex tape, the farce of a child pornography trial and Kelly’s public avoidance of anything resembling remorse.

So, with that knowledge and awareness on-deck, I only have one question left for the parents, his remaining inner circle and anyone else still claiming to be down for R. Kelly-----why? What is it about this talented, yet troubled man that makes his supporters deny the red flags, bells, whistles and alarms regarding his choices?

In my opinion, the reasoning, and consequences, are rooted in a race-conscious and misogynistic toxic mess. Somehow, apparently, his followers believe that a man who creates magic in the studio is simply incapable of such abhorrent acts. To them, it’s a larger conspiracy conceived by ‘wypipo’ and ‘fast-azz hussies/hoes/thots’ out to cash out and shut down one of R&B’s most prolific performers.

But by continuing to download his mp3s and attending his shows, rather than boycotting Kelly and holding him accountable, what do we gain? By enabling this proud pervert and even worse, providing him even fleeting contact with our girls and women, what are we teaching him and what are others learning about us, and our society in return?

Even if “Team Kelly” could supply some answers, what I do know is this: I haven’t dropped a dime in R. Kelly’s direction since 2002. I don’t follow him in social media and his music is out of rotation in our home. I enjoyed his music, saw him live a couple of times and for more his sake than ours, I wish the man would hit a therapist’s couch before picking up the mic again anytime soon. But in the meantime, the need to demonstrate morality to our children resonates more than ‘Kellz’’ catchy catalog.

Anybody else remember The Boondocks? Waaaaay back in 2005, during that infamous parody of an R. Kelly trial, Huey Freeman said it best; “We all know the n**** can sing, but what happened to standards? What happened to bare minimums? ……Don’t pretend the man is a hero! Act like you’ve got some [expletive]sense people! Damn!”

Because his fans chose not to take heed, neither did R. Kelly. And in the process, it’s getting harder and harder to tell which side is in the most need of help.

It beats me too. I too have a few younger female FB friends who worship this dude. One claims to be holy but yet she took photos at an RKelly show and posted them on FB. lol I've actually seen some FB arguments too over his past. You have a few that say only God Can Judge. I say that is true ;however, when it comes to sexual pevertedness against minors I say hell yeah we can judge.

It's something I don't take lightly at all whether it's a school teacher, preacher, or the neighbor down

the street. The bottom line is these female fans let whom they perceive as a sexy chocolate man who can sing take over actual logic being that this guy is a known sexual predator and I'm not talking about the new allegations. I'm not one to assume guilt without all the facts. Like you stated they just don't care because it didn't happen to someone close to them. This guy hasn't gotten a dime from me since Home Alone and I sure as hell wouldn't go to one of his shows.

I don't want to convict R. Kelly because the American legal system has a principle called "innocent until proven guilty." That being said, I wouldn't put ANYTHING involving sex with underage girls past him.

.

My husband was interested in seeing R. Kelly when R. Kelly's tour came to Philly on September 30, 2016, but I felt very conflicted about going. We never ended up buying tickets or going.

.

I felt conflicted because I was in high school from 2000-2004. Mr. Kelly was quite popular during those years, with his CDs Tp2.com and Chocolate Factory. He had several major hit songs. He also had some major controversies. After Aaliyah died in August 2001, R. Kelly's name was in the news because he and Aaliyah had been married and he was the mastermind behind her first album, Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number. I never saw the sex tape from 2002-2003. However, I remember another girl from high school who watched the tape and insisted that it was him and found the tape to be disturbing. I remember her talking about it on the school bus while we were en route to or from track and field practice. I also remember hearing a story on NPR about how that sex tape was virtually impossible to fabricate. And of course there was Dave Chappelle's hilarious parody of R. Kelly's otherwise completely not-funny sex tape situation on Chappelle's Show.

.

I was reading just now an article called "R. Kelly's Scandals and Alleged Sex Crimes: From Aaliyah Marriage to Cult Reports" by Elias Leight, July 18, 2017, from

http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/r-kelly-scandals-from-aaliyah-to-alleged-cults-w492844.

This article refreshed my memory about some of the accusations against him. One that I find particularly disturbing was the accusation that he had sex with an underage girl, got her pregnant, and then pressured her to have an abortion. The now-woman to whom I am referring is Patrice Jones and she ended up settling with R. Kelly out of court, and there is a non-disclosure agreement. He's settled out-of-court with several women, and he's had the money to do so.

.

I'm glad I didn't see him in concert. He may not have any convictions, but he has a lengthy history of arrests and accusations related to relations with underage girls, in other words, acting on pedophilia. As the saying goes, "Where there's smoke, there's fire." These accusations don't just come from thin air. At the very least, he appears to have the disorder of pedophilia, and needs psychiatric treatment. Pedophilia is an orientation of being sexually attracted to children. While I find that to be incredibly repulsive, it is not in and of itself a crime. It is only a crime when a person acts upon this orientation and sexually assaults a minor.

.

I wouldn't put anything past R. Kelly when it comes to relationships with underage girls. If he has engaged in pedophilic acts of sexual assault, which would not surprise me, he should go to prison for a very long time. Few crimes repulse me more than sexually assaulting or sexually abusing children. In the meantime, I will be boycotting his music.

Backstage at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, on May 23, 2015, J. was thrilled that her 19-year-old daughter’s music career was going to make a major leap forward from recording demos and performing at talent shows to the chance of stardom — thanks to the help of an R&B superstar.

“When we got to go backstage with R. Kelly, we stayed there over two hours,” said J. “One-on-one with just me and my daughter and him. We went back to talk about the music. He listened to her CD. He was going to help her with her CD, and I was really impressed with him at first, because I have always been an R. Kelly fan.”

J. said that Robert “R.” Kelly, who turned 50 in January, met her daughter backstage at a concert in Atlanta earlier that month. Soon enough, he’d invited her to fly out to the Indio concert on his dime. J. said she’d heard about past sexual misconduct accusations against Kelly, but wasn’t overly worried. Two years later, J. and Tim are in a desperate fight to bring their daughter home. (BuzzFeed News verified their identities and full names in public records, but is withholding the alleged victim's full name and her parents' last name to protect her privacy.)

This was even on the news here in New Zealand, was shocked as I consider it tabloidy and rubbish. Yet R Kelly loves barely budded girls.

.

He is not a paedophile (Children) but what we call an hebeophile (Likes pubescent individuals, but still legally underaged). Basically if a girl has tits he wants them and with black girls, budding starts around 11 or 12 well below the age of allowable adult sex.

.

This is nothing new, from trying to marry Aaliyah when she was 14 in 1994 and peeing on a 15 year old girl in 2003, this scandal of him with some teenage video shamikas is nothing new. Plus how do we not know most of these 13 and 14 year old girls are already thinking they are freaks and hoes because of the shit hop and shitty sex R and B they listen to. Blame bitches like Nicki Minaj whose entire song catalogue is about sucking vaginas, asses and big ebong dicks, and other slutty sex acts, like Rhianna, Beyonce and the like.

.

Stop promoting this skanky ho slut culture and this problem will go away. Girls as young as 6 or 7 are getting encouraged to act like skanks because of this music. Not just black ones, but white and Mexican too, as artists like Katy Perry, Gaga, Arianna Grandy and Selena Gomez are just pronographic sex singers and humpers.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

And what about Prince? as far as i remember he is not that different from any of those you mentioned, he was all about sex in his music. Please, don't blame those artists for something that comes down to avery single individual.

Yeah but Prince wasn't singing that shit to 14 year old girls or keeping them in a sex cult, plus he never peed on one either. All his women seemed to be 20s and he even made Mayte and Anna wait until they 18 b4 sexing.
.
He is a pervert and we all know it, he needs to be arrested and pilloried. Compare his treatment to that of INNOCENT Michael Jackson.
.
Yet Kelly is straight and macho, not effeminate or an easy target like Michael. This sleazoid will get away it and its because he is the big mack daddy pimp Jones.

---Extralovable was never releashed to the public with those lyrics and no one ever accused Prince of rape and according to his young lady friends he was one making them wait until they were 18.
He never wrote just plain out and out crap skanky lyrics As a teen I knew his audience was really adults.

Prince went through a wild sexual phase about 1980 - 84 and some of the songs on DM, Controversy and 1999 are very sexually charged and lines like "I want to fuck the taste out of your mouth" are questionable along with the song Sister. But he was only 21 to 25 at the time, not in his 50s. By the time Prince was 50 he turned his back on lyrics that bordered on the rapine and was known for his holier than thou attitude.

.

The fact he repudiated all that racy stuff from 1998/99 onwards. shows how far he came. Prince may have approved of PR Deluxe, but we can fuck and those other songs were put on by Warners Execs, not Prince, if he was alive I would doubt we would be hearing those.

.

Prince liked sex, what man does not, but he liked legal sex, he did make young women wait until they were 18 and I doubt he forced girls, they came to him. Okay Mayte, Anna and Carmen were 18/19, but so many of his other women were well into their 20s when he was in love and being physical with them (Susannah, Vanity, Judith, Bria, Manuela etc). He had some tendencies though, those darker songs like Xtra Lovable, Lust u always, and Big Tall Wall (About locking a girl up and making her love it), but We can Fuck is not, yes its graphic, but he is praising her and being positive, not calling her a hoe or a bitch like most of the shit hop and sexified R and B like R Kelly and Prince has never compared a girl to car (U remind me of my Jeep), plus Dave Chapelle did not do a scatalogical send up of his songs like he did with R Kelly and Prince never peed on no 15 year old girl. And why does he film himself sexing them and he has a Chicago and Atlanta compound for his bitches eached staffed by a boss bitch who instructs them on pleasing the singer.

.

Plus even his rapiest and nastiest songs have some musicality about them, organs, drums, guitars and creamy vocals. Kelly's are all drum machines, and auto tuned singing and they are all complete shit.

.

Plus we need to look at the record, most of R Kelly's songs I have heard are either objectifying women and calling them hoes and bitches or about sexing them. The rest of his music is cheesy crap like Believe I can fly (Yuuucckkkkk), whereas Prince's music, for every song about nasty, freaky sex, there are 10 or more glorifying a woman's beauty, her brains or personality.

.

Also just because I listen to a song about Fucking or lust or graphic sex. Does not mean I objectify it, if anything I detest any thing that forces anyone into stuff they don't want to do and believe that all people (Not just women) should be loved and cherished. Sex should be beautiful and loving, not sleazy and violent. Songs like Lust u always and Xtralovable I hardly ever listening to, because those lines about rape and violence are truly sick in my opinion.

F*ck Kelly and all this victim blaming. He's an adult, only he is accountable for the assualts and rapes, not the women or their parents. I hope he rots in prison.
