Updated: Jay-Z Announces 4:44 Tour

06/19/2017

4:44 is a new Jay-Z album and it's arriving on June 30.

It will be a Sprint and Tidal exclusive -- Sprint purchased 33 percent of the streaming service in January -- and fans will have to be Sprint customers or Tidal member to get it.

The official announcement from Sprint came after midnight Sunday follow a release earlier in the evening of a teaser video for what a previous teaser described as an NC-17 movie starring Mahershala Ali, Lupita Nyong'o and Danny Glover.

The 30-second video, which features black-and-white footage of Ali training as a boxer, is soundtracked by a new song, "Adnis."

There's not much of "Adnis" to be heard in the clip -- just an instrumental intro and the verse: “Letter to my dad that I never wrote/Speeches I prepared that I never spoke/Words on the paper that I never read/Proses never penned, they stayed in my head.”

I sure hope there's some changes with this track. Sounds wack.

I'm gonna get killed for this but Jay-Z is the most overrated rapper of all time. His flow is boring;
his voice is boring; and he's said nothing in the past 20 years that gave me pause.

He aiight. There is nothing like "You Must Love Me" in recent years but he def has classics under his belt including Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album and American Gangster. Blueprint 3 wasnt bad either. Holy Grail sucked though I wasnt a fan of his last album.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

And what does that tell us?

That anyone can buy their way in. Do you really think Jay-Z is a great songwritter.? Will people be going around humming his tunes 5 or even 20 years from now? Is Jay-Z a Lennon-McCarthy or Dylan like songwritter?

He does not even meet the level of the Motown songwritting teams.

I am not knocking him as a businessman. I just never thought he had a lot of talent music wise.

Ok. I just needed clarity on your POV that's all. Thanks.

And yes, there are countless other writers in Hip Hop that deserved to be recognized long before Shawn. This is just a part of his marketing and promotion of his new record he's dropping soon.

I doubt if you took a random poll of young people they could tell you one song.

On a good day he is not even on Jam and Lewis level of songwritting.

Next we will put Bones, Thugs and Harmony in the songwriters hall of fame.

What teenager is humming any of Jay Z's songs off of his debut? What song off of his debut is lyrically relevant today? You Jay Z fans always throw up Reasonable Doubt as his most "artistic work" but all of Tupac and Nas 90s albums are more relevant and influential than any of his albums, including Reasonable Doubt.

I think its crazy how they picked him over Madonna and George Michael to be inducted.

Just because you're famous for something doesn't mean you were actually good at doing that
something.

Also inducted into the Hall of Fame this year: Kenneth Edmonds, best known as Babyface, who, in addition to his solo work, wrote songs for Whitney Houston and Boyz II Men; the R&B producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige); the Swedish pop mastermind Max Martin (Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Katy Perry); and the band Chicago’s chief songwriters, Robert Lamm, James Pankow and Peter Cetera. Mr. Gordy, the Motown founder, was honored as well, after deferring his induction last year.

As much as people sample Jay's music these days and quotes I can see it. Hes been in the game for over twenty years, wrote several hit songs for other artists including Foxy Brown, Dr. Dre and Memphis Bleek.

I hate when peeps sat Jay is overrated. And say because of his recent material. Jay has been putting out records since the early 90s.

That's like hearing a recent O'Jays song and saying these guys are trash. How are they in the Rock Hall.

Kr watching Patrick Ewing as a Orlando Magic and saying how was this guy ever an 11 time all-star?

^ He is not a more influential songwriter than Madonna or George Michael (this is not subjective). The fact that he was picked over more influential songwriters makes him rightfully overrated.

No it makes him a famous name in music today.

But in this case, its appropiate to call Jay Z overrated. He was selected to be inducted in the songwriters Hall of Fame over Madonna and George Michael. That is absurd.
