El DeBarge's solo albums

Curious to read some discussion and opinions on his solo albums as i don't see them mentioned often.

I like them all. I'd say that Gemini and Heart, Mind and Soul are my two favorites. His latest release was good but I only really come back to the title track ( great song ).

I hated his debut album and I didn't care for the Rhythm of the Night album simply because it seemed to muffle what I call the Debarge sound. Vocals weren't bad but they had a lot of outside producers and song writers Richard Perry, Jay Graydon,Diane Warren etc. It was obvious they were going for that crossover appeal.

Gemini,In the Storm,Heart Mind and Soul,Second Chance I liked them all.
Always felt Gemini with maybe a few songs taken off and different songs replacing them would have been a decent Debarge album.

El Debarge shines most if he has a hand in writing and producing or if he's working with other R&B writers, Producers

Lord knows I love some El DeBarge! I own all of his solo albums. I really can't say that there's anything memorable about any of them. As a solo artist, he had really poor promotion and very little radio support. I'm sure the drug addiction only complicated matters.

I have everything the man has put out...

Gemini album, Heart Mind & Soul, and yeah... In the Storm has been added to my rotation. I think the semi-bubble-pop songs didn't enhance El's musci career. Second Chance would have sounded better if El has produced and wrote most of the material.

Always thought this was dope from El. His Marvin influence was quite apparent.

This song really brings out his Marvin influence too. Reminds me a lot of the I Want You album.
