A few thoughts about TLC.

.

A couple of days ago, "No Scrubs" came on the radio and I still knew every freaking word.

.

I consider "Waterfalls" to be my childhood anthem.

.

The new single by them is pretty decent.

.

Their cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is really good, and my first time hearing IIWYGF was their version, not Prince's.

Hard for me to listen to my favorites in 2017 confused

New album was not that bad. Some tracks like Way Back I like, but probably won't listen to it much.

Haters sounds like a Radio Disney banger.

Everything else was meh.

Ya know, during all that late 90s breakup challenge drama... Lisa was the only one that put out a full album despite being sparsely featured on CrazySexyCool and Fanmail. I still think that says a lot about her input and talent, and I wonder how solo albums from all 3 at their peak could have compared to each other. It's obvious they are each uniquely talented in comparison to, say, Beyonce's Child.

Some favs:

Baby Baby Baby - Fell in LOVE with them when this one came out...it was this track that made me know they were here to stay

What About Your Friends - When that one came out I finally paid attention to this amazing track I originally slept on

Diggin On U - Always loved the lyrics and the video version is hot with the added horns

Case Of The Fake People - Actually never paid this one attention when the album came out, but then I started paying attention to the lyrics and was relevant to me in my teens years

Fanmail - Always liked the futuristic sound and still sounds up to date. One of my favoprite opening tracks to an album

In Your Arms 2Nite - Pharrell did the thing on this sensual funk ballad.

Come On Down - Chili sounds the best she ever has in this track, very babyface like and down to their slow jam roots.

Unpretty - The lyrics in this track found its way to our hearts in high School, where it seemed like everybody was in a damn fashion show. I remember alot of us talking about this track and quoting lyrics here and there.

Kick Your Game - The beat on this on is so sick. Seeing this performace on Soul Train actually made me get the cassette. It never got released as a single I think and that's what

I'm Good At Being Bad - Just a nasty ass song by the one and only Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. They should have worked with them again. Chili said this song was inspired by Janet's "What About".

New jam* Start A Fire - This track on their new album is VERY NICE. I was so suprised by it I played it 3x in a row. The acousic guitar over a haunting T-Boz and Chili vocal. the lyrics are seductive. They never did a track like this and it is worth the listen.

Start A Fire is a highlight of the new album and a nice tune, the first bit and the chorus remind me of our Purple one. Scandalous is the jam on the new album.

They are the ideal blue print girl group. They each contributed their talents to the group and all three needed each other in order for the group to be successful. While the Supremes were influential, they still are not the ideal blue print being Diana Ross was the focal point (and most girl groups follow this same dynamic). Given the unique dynamic of TLC, they are the most successful and influential in flourishing with this blue print.

The magic is gone. Don't be mad people aren't interested in mediocre projects from acts that are way past their prime.

People here seem to be more interested in mediocre projects from singers in their prime so what's the difference? Tlc are iconic are worth celebrating, very underrated.

Even 3D only had one new Left-Eye rap. The rest were taken from her solo album which I'd already listened to 100 times before 3d came out. There's no TLC without Left-eye. Even though many of their songs didn't feature a Left-eye rap she was always there and they were divine together. They could have improved this album greatly by reusing Meant to Be and putting it on as the last track. That song was the closest they've come to matching the glory days of their first 3 albums.

Yeah, just something missing in the production or feeling in their new works. 3D was decent...this one is decent too. Nothing wrong with it, just reality that Left Eye is def missed and was the glue that held them together. The "crazy" part is missing from their personality.
