Tevin Campbell 2 Sister2Sister: I'M NOT GAY!

The new issue of "Sister 2 Sister" features Queen Latifah on the cover and an interview with Tevin Campbell. Campbell denies being gay and says he's "try-sexual" (his words, not mine).

Now that he's trying to stage a comeback, I think Tevin is going to stay in the closet forever! too bad cuz the brutha needs 2 be heard. However, I don't understand why he's denying this? I knew dude was soft from the get-go, but I can understand why he probably don't want to put his shit in the streets like that. Good for him I guess rolleyes

I think it's bullshit that it's even an issue of him being gay or not. If he comes with some shit like "Round and Round" or "Can We Talk" I'll cop it. It's sad that in 2003 we still give a fuck about shit like this.

Just let the dude produce a decent album.

He has heaps more potential than most of these so-called R& B 'singers'.

She asked him about it and he calls himself a try sexual he is in to trying new things...but he is not gay or bisexual...but he will do it with male or female but you gotta read for yourself here's an excerpt i am going to post for you:

Jamie: You don't want to know what your sexuality is?
Tevin: I'm not gay, but there's a lot of different things that I do like, sexually. Being in the business, you are introduced to a lot of different things. I'm not gay, but I'm a freak and I think a lot of people know what a freak is.

Jamie: I don't. What is it?
Tevin: Basically, I'm trying a lot of things. Being open-minded. It has nothing to do with attraction. It's just having fun and I did a lot of that on the road with dancers. We had truth or dare.

Jamie: So you're saying it could be male or female? Whatever is happening at that time?
Tevin: Right, I am not exclusively attracted to men. I'm not gay, but sexually...

Jamie: Would you say you're bisexual?
Tevin: No, just "try-sexual."

Jamie: What is that? You, me and he?
Tevin: Leave that to the imagination.

Alot of RnB singers didn't admit that but you could see that in them never the less, like: Luther Vandross!

Actually I have a different take after reading that exchange. Tevin opened himself up to furth questions regarding it. He should have just said "My sexuality has nothing to do with my music and is not relevant to this interview" That would have ended that but this fool wanted to go into what a "freak" he is. From that point it's all on him.

Lets be real 4 a minute shall we?

In the RnB world, it kills you when you admit that issue. Sad but true...in the minority urban community (Blacks, Arabs, Caribbeans and latinos) this is still taboo and can set you back 4 good. Hell, He's doing EXACTLY what Luther Vandross did and still doing.

But ya'll know damn well that Tevin can sing his lil' ass around all of them so called RnB fools(Usher-sisqo-Ginuwine-B2K-Joe-Jagged Edge-Tank-Jahiem-Musiq) and the list goes on & one till the break of dawn.

I remember Quincy Jones calling him the MODERN DAY Michael Jackson and I also remember Mr.Simpson from Video Soul saying that his voice is the MALE VERSION of Whitney's voice,,,now could someone get a betta compliement than that? I sho as hell don't think so!

And the fact remains that most who listen to r-n-b etc do not want to hear a gay person singing love songs regardles of their vocal skills. Vandross is one of the rare exceptions if even it's true.

Which is code for "none yo damn business" Remember for the longest time Prince wouldn't answer this question either and he turned out not to be gay. Not all "soft" acting men are gay and not all "macho" men are straight.

No duh..but come on now. If Tevin came with that "just concentrate on my music" trip you and everyone else would know what that meant regardless of it being anyones business.

intha916 is EXACTLY correct. It looks like Tevin took a lesson or 2 from the "Prince school on how to talk in circles & annoy the hell out the interviewer & confuse the readers"..

I admire & respect how Luther Vandross has handled this type of question. I saw that "Behind The Music"-type show (ripoff?) that BET has, they did an hour on Luther, & towards the end of that show, Luther looked dead into the camera & said, basically:

"I'm not going to dignify that question [about his sexuality] with an answer."
Because in the context of his PERSONAL life AWAY from music, it really isn't anyone's business. That said, I would not be surprised to learn that Luther was gay.. that doesn't change at all the fact that he is an AMAZING singer, maybe the best "technical" singer of this or any other generation..

I have NO IDEA what Tevin's "angle" is, trying to be "cute" by using expressions like "try-sexual"..

He simply needs to put out good music, IF that's what he wants to do..
& tell (nosy) people to mind their own damned business.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

there's a difference in "not dignifying a quesation with an answer" and saying "am I straight, or gay" and saying "I am not gay..."

Everytime someone says Im not dignifying that question .." its just code for saying "yes I am gay but Im not goin on record about it" so wtf?

I knew about the Cat a long time ago but that doesn't matter because this Cat is One of the Baddest Vocalists I've Heard in the last 15 Years easily. He just needs to mainly work with nareda Michael Walden because of all the Cas Tevin has worked with He had the best Musical Chemsitry with him.

Until black america becomes more opened minded to our black gays and lesbians more singers like Tevin and Luther will remain in the closet. Their personal life is definitely their business, but it would be nice if at least one very popular black entertainer would admit to being gay. The whites have had Elton, Ellen Degeneres and others. Don't mean to turn this into a racial debate.

Did Jermain Stewart ever admit he was gay? I guess the real question is, did he have to?
