Exactly!! This is why I said that the only reason Bieber is still relevant, opposed to the irrelevance of Backstreet Boys or N Sync after just 4 years of being big, is because his fans love him to death, they've been there for him since late 09, almost ten years later and their number has doubled if not tripled.

Those acts were around before Youtube, so were basically still under the old system where popularity depended on radio airplay and record sales. Top 40 radio generally played a specific act for a certain amount of time, then go on to the next thing, like glam metal, disco, grunge, New Jack Swing, etc. With the social media generation and Youtube/streaming a fan can keep up with their acts for as long as they want. They don't have to depend on waiting for a radio DJ to play a specific song and can listen/watch the music as many times as they want anytime they want. There's amatuer singers on Youtube singing or playing an instrument in their bedrooms with millions of views and followers and don't even have a record out. That's how Justin got discovered in the first place. Cat videos get millions of views. lol I think America's Funniest Home Videos, which is still being made and on TV, was the beginning of viral videos. Psy, who was unknown outside of Korea, all of a sudden had the highest viewed music video on Youtube, and was performing with MC Hammer, Madonna, & Snoop Dogg.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

God, i already told you, this is not rocket science, people just like the boy and his music. What else? Bob Dylan is a much, much, much greater artist than Bieber and after 50 years he hasn't got a number one single, in the other hand Bieber with 8 years and wothout having Bob Dylan's level he's got now 5 number ones. Why, because it happens that people just don't like Bob Dylan enough to put his songs at number one, unlike Bieber.

It's not that hard guys, once again the org in their drama time. He is a handsome guy, cute body and he and specially his producers make some catchy tunes, really catchy and good videos. What's so hard to understand?

If it was that simple a lot more guys would be that big. He's sells out arena's and stadiums around the world. And that after 7 years of fame. Its more than a cute face.

So what is your guess?

his other shows are the cd playing, dancers, a hype man and a bunch of video graphics. Must be a generational thing.

Huge crowds go to EDM festivals, in which some of the acts are DJs playing records/CDs or pushing buttons with a light show.

I was actually thinking about that too! lol But to me, that's a little different. That's like going to a laser show where you know that's all you're getting. You're just going to a light show with loud music to party.

With a song performance I expect live singing, a band and yes maybe some effects but if you are a singer that knows how to bring it you dont need to sing behind the cds. That type of performance sound empty and cheap. There's nothing like a live performance but again, I'm from Gen X and maybe thats what I'm used to, although I dont think its a generational thing because young acts like Bruno Mars know whats up and he keeps it live too. Concert tickets are expensive and if I'm going to hear the cd I should just stay home.

He's an arrogant little prick who ought to get his head to be smashed against a wall. Long, hard and constantly.

I Saw the fucker at the Pinkpop festival (in my home town) this year.
The day he 'performed' was sold out, meaning 61,500 people were there.

Now let's say that about half of them specifically came for Bieper
30,000 mainly teeny girlies spending €95 to see that prick.

Obviously, he started too late.

His 'show' was awefull. Everything was play back, he didn't dance, he didn't sing and a large time of his 'performance' he stood with his back towards the public.

He didn't have a fucking clue where he was and made it very obvious he didn't care.

If you strip his 'performance' from all the lightshow and fireworks, there is nothin left but a sad, bored, arrogant little prick in a fucking jogging suit, walking back and forth on a stage.

Knowing he was payed 1,2 M$, if I would have been part of the festival organisation, I would have kicked his sorry little ass off the stage and punched him in the face.

What a farce.

Except for a few acts like OutKast & The Roots, I wouldn't expect a band playing behind a rapper at a concert. Some today don't even have a DJ like a Jam Master Jay or Jazzy Jeff. Lip sync concerts aren't really new, they were around before Milli Vanilli. They were mostly done by 1980s dance music singers and 70s disco vocal groups performing in clubs, who couldn't afford to hire a band. Some of those dance records didn't have a band on it in the first place, maybe just a keyboard player and drum programming. Some sang live over the record or an instrumental version of a single. It also happened in the late 1950s at some sock hop shows that featured a current act performing their current hit.

I'm aware of lip synced concerts from the past, but live music playing was more the rule than the exception back then but I'm finding that its a special case now to find an artist who can sing live to a band. When I saw Janet Jackon's #1s tour as much as I love the music she was lip synching so bad behind the cds, I felt the only thing I saw was dancing and special effects. there is no way I feel I could pay for that again, as much as I love her catalog. I think Justin Bieber does it because the fans dont care or they come to see that as the complete package, which I dont'

I don't see where he is arrogant. I always see him acknowledging his influences and artists that came before him. He never gloats about his success in his music from the songs that I have heard and I don't hear him gloating about his talent or his success in interviews. The artists that are assholes and arrogant you all make excuses for but the artists that are not, ya'll call arrogant and are overly critical. Its strange because there are many other pop stars I would say are more arrogant than him. No, he is not that talented but that doesn't mean he is arrogant.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I don't really follow him but in interviews he is always acknowledging his influences and he doesn't gloat about his success in his music but in this video he comes off as very arrogant and mean to fans.

Micky, none of that disproves what shortstuff alluded to. The overwhelming majority of his fanbase is teen/preteen white girls who support his shit. Any atist could be as popular as JB if you they could appeal to his fanbase, coz thier the ones that but pop music the most.

When a much younger and unknown Bieber promoted his first single he dropped by Wendy Williams...The kid had a decent singing voice but I did not think he was gonna be HUGE...Wendy said that was the FIRST & LAST time he ever appeared on her show...He became a Superstar and no longer relied on the Talk Show format...
