Katy Perry's Sinking Ship Can't Be Repaired by Nicki Minaj and Drag Queens

Interesting article. I don't hate Katy Perry, but not a big fan either.

Chained to the Rhythm,” which peaked at No. 4 but rapidly plummeted down the charts.

Soon, Katy Perry went into reverse flop mode. She suddenly announced her bisexuality, but it seemed like more of a marketing ploy to endear herself with the LGBT community.

So they just ignored "I Kissed A Girl" when it first came out right?

Anyway I was one of those people who couldnt stand Roar and Dark Horse (Really didnt get the popularity of that track) and could not wait for that damn song to go away, but then she would come up with a track like Birthday and This Is How We Do and I'm reset. maybe she just put out the wrong singles for the crowed, but I like em...and apparently others do too.

I don't see her as a sinking ship. But she's not at the top of my list either. "Swish Swish" is a killer fun song that does harken back to the house music of the 90s. I love it. "Bon Appetit" is just about eating pussy - and frankly why not.

As far as the Migos thing, he's a dickbag. There were supposed to be drag queens in the "Bon Appetit" performance on SNL this past week, but they were pulled from the scene at the last minute. Migos was uncomfortable around them. At first, it was a rumor, but then a lot of SNL staffers and the drag queens themselves confirmed the stories.

It was a dent to Perry's standing with the LGBTQI community, that she didn't stand up for the queens, and say "hey, they're here with me, this is how we're doing it". The bigger punch to the gut was that none of the queens in the "Swish Swish" performance were invited to the after party because Migos was there.

Janet Jackson faced the same backlash when she worked with Beenie Man. BM was making the usual homophobic music and when it really came to her attention, Janet disavowed herself from working with him. She said, "If I had known that (he was associated with homophobia), I would not have worked with him. It's shocking to me. We're on the same label, so I should have known. But at the same time, I wish someone from the company would have told me, knowing how... I feel about the gay community." Janet took the right course with that one.

Janet has never played the bisexual card in saying she was bisexual. She explored the bisexual theme on The Velvet Rope, but never testified to anything specific. In fact, she's plainly stated she wasn't bisexual. So whether Perry or Gaga are truly bisexual, who knows. But it does seem to be an en vogue thing to do, and it's no better than Rachel Dolezal saying she identifies as black.

As far as Perry, she has time to do right by the LGBTQI community, and just be on the right side of humanity and history. This is a blip on the screen, but if you're dissing another major pop star, don't come to court with dirty hands.

To be honest, I had no idea Migos really had a problem with the queer community, and that's what I am most disappointed in. I know creative people that worked with Migos and I find it surprising they would not appear on the same stage where they are insinuating oral sex and hinting at cannibalism.

But don't you know homosexuality is the worst sin, even over murder, cannibalism, child abuse, war, and infidelity.

It's interesting because the original article was on WorldOfWonder, the production company that produces RuPaul's Drag Race among other media content. The link is now invalid.

There are comments on a FB post that it has been proven untrue. Frankly, I'm quite happy to be wrong with this.

Katy peaked pretty early in her career with Teenage Dream (or rather the deluxe edition of Teenage Dream) in terms of commercial success.

However, one of the problems with this current "era" of hers is that it has no real identity though she didn't really have one with Prism either. What is trying to be based on the singles she's released in such rapid succession?

Also, there's the fact that she's released three singles and the album itself still has yet to be released.

I've never really been a fan, bit too bubblegum for me, but I have to say I'm loving her two new tracks! Feel like she's moving into a more edgy, Madonna-esque era.

Katy Perry seems like one of those pop stars who will use something like the LGBT community as a tool to maintain her success/popularity, without actually really caring about the community. I'd love to be proven wrong, but if you're going to bring drag queens onstage for your big SNL performance and then not say anything when your asshole collaborators don't want them around for the afterparty? She's not any better than Migos for being complicit to that bullshit. Her music isn't any good either but that's a whole other issue lol

Besides, I get more of an Annie Lennox vibe from Katy now.

Not a fan of the blonde hair. To me the dark hair was her trademark and it set her apart from a lot of other pop stars and celebrities who are blondes. Plus, the blonde doesn't suit her coloring.

I like a few songs here and there, but she'll never be a Madonna, because she's not in control of her music and her art. She's much more manufactured and dependent on others to tell her what to do than Madonna is.

Plus, she doesn't have Madonna's charisma.

Rihanna said she wants to be the like Madonna though.

There have always been some copiers but they still don't come close to the real thing.

I loved her during the Teenage Dream era, but unfortunately during Prism, she got boring. Her music all sounded the same and very generic and she didn't seem to be very interesting. Now, I can't stand her. All of her music recently has seemed lke shes trying way too hard to fit it to our culture today and it doesn't make sense. Shes pretty desperate at this point and its showing.

I just meant a move away from bubblegum to more 'adult'/edgy music/image like M did in the late 80s/early 90s.

There will never be another Madonna.

I really do not get HOW anyone can compare Katy or Taylor or Rihanna etc...to Madonna or Janet etc...I just do not get it for the life of me. Lets look at Katy's "Teenage Dream" album didnt that have 6 Singles and they were comparing it with THRILLER??? Newsflash though "Teenage Dream" despite the singles, sold over 2 million in the states, and 6 million worldwide that is not even a comparison to "THRILLER". Lets get off these whole comparison things like saying "Oh Drake has more hits then the Beatles" people streaming and downloads and all this nonsense is alot different than actually selling albums and singles which ALL THESE ARTISTS then did and now DO NOT! So I really do bat an eye at the fact that Nicki Minaj has more chart entries than anyone, the way things are judging now its not relevant. So KATY's sinking ship as we call it, was not even a fucking ship. Yes shes hot and has some catchy songs and a decent voice and i think somewhere in her is a deeper artist that one day we might see, but please spare me these comparisons of NOW to THEN.
