Four instead of the usual two in a "versus" thread? lol

I think we had a similar thread not too long ago. Anyway, the Janet/Madonna comparison I can understand. But, to throw Mimi and Nippy in that particular mix is like comparing apples and oranges. Janet and Madonna are more known for their stage presence and shock value while the other two are known for their voices. A more fair comparison would be: Who is the best performer: Madonna/Janet/Beyonce/Rhianna. Those four are in the same league, totally seperate from Mimi and Nippy.

I agree.

Janet still wins.

Janet is the greatest female performer of all time. Bad bish, nobody can step to her on the floor. Tina Turner comes a close second and then Madonna (who also was a great performer as well I just finish watchig Girlie Show).

Nippy and Mariah shouldn't be in this conversation because they weren't dance artists, they were vocalists (so its not really fair). HOWEVER, Whitney was a DAMN good performer and had tremendous stage presence, PASSION and charisma. She was JUST AS great of a performer as Janet even without back up dancers and spectacle, she didn't need it. I haven't watched enough of Mariah's prime performances to give a fair assessment but she wasn't a better performer than Whitney.

Not sure why Beyonce and Rihanna are mentioned in the same conversation as Janet and Madonna. Janet and Madonna were way superior performers, dancers and were more entertaining on stage than them AND so was Whitney.

At the height of their respective powers as a performer, I'd rather watch a Janet Jackson show
back in the late 80s; watching her do Control and 1814 would have been fucking amazing!

The performer I'd least want to see in a concert would be either Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey
as neither were performers first and foremost, but vocalists chiefly. I think I'd go with not wanting
to see Carey.

In the 80s into the early 90s Janet
early 90s into the early 2000s Madonna

Mariah & Whitney aren't in the same league

Janet is basically untouchable in that departement, she knew how to put on an amazing show and excite the audience.

I also like Bjork, saw her live once and I very much dug the visuals, her costumes, the way she speeds her music to a certain climax then slows down...

SoulAlive

it's interesting that, out of these four performers, only one (Madonna) is still out there having truly successful tours on a regular basis.

Mariah, who once headlined her own tours, is now opening for Lionel Richie.Janet's tours always seem to have "issues" that cause delays and cancellations. And sadly,Whitney is no longer here.

Paula choreographed 4 videos for Janet and nothing more. And none of those were even her best videos or routines. Janet has been performing since the age of 7, she's always been a performer. Janet had co-writers along with the 3 other artists listed, so I don't know why that was mentioned. I'm also confused as to what her co-writers has to do with her abilities as a performer.

I never knew there were so many Janet fans until I joined the org. She definitely gets one of the best ratio of praise:criticized ratios here compared to the other female superstars (at least of her work in the 1980s). Not a major fan but never saw her live. I do think Madonna does deserve kudos for perhaps the female who has sold out more arenas than any even if she isn't considered the best.

Out of the list I've not seem Mariah.

.

Janet is bloomin' awesome!!

.

Madonna puts on a good show.

.

But Whitney is problably the only one (out of Janet, Madonna and Whitney) who has actually ever sang live for an entire concert.

.

Madonna and Janet couldn't handle it.

.

Janet is amazing but when I saw her a few years back she mimed the whole thing!!!

.

lol lol lol lol

thread says performer not singer. whitney, then mariah in that regard. we all know that. so as it relates to performer, whitney as living color spoofed was the queen of her rhythmless nation! madonna is a master at theatrics and can keep things intersting and visually riveting but she her self did not do anything above average from a performance standpoint. mariah can belt, but to see her in concert would be torture, i need not explain further. thus its Janet. seen her several times to confirm it. partial lip-synching or not. to quote "bonnie rait", she's a sparkplug of funk! haters be gone, its the truth, recent challenges notwithstanding, if not for nipplegate and the subsequent blacklist, she'd still pack arenas more easily. unbreakable had at least 3 more top 20 pop/r&b singles

It is, unless you really enjoy just looking at her stand there.
