Coming to CD, DVD: Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour

s3Zf8mK.jpg

05/12/17

The Madonna: Rebel Heart Tour concert film will arrive on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray on September 15, and there also will be a live 22-track audio CD to go along with it.

A version of the movie aired on Showtime this past December, but this package includes extra content.

The DVD was filmed around the world, and culminates with a show in Sydney, Australia, in March of 2016.

The package includes previously unreleased footage, in addition to live performances and behind-the-scenes stuff.

Among the songs included in this tour's setlist: "True Blue," "Burnin' Up," "Dress You Up," "Like a Virgin," "La Isla Bonita," "Take a Bow," "Like a Prayer," "Music," "Material Girl" and "Holiday."

Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour, which promoted her album of the same name, kicked off in Montreal in September of 2015.

It spanned 82 shows over 55 cities on four continents, and grossed just under $170 million. That made the Queen of Pop the top-grossing touring female artist in history, according to Billboard, having sold $1.31 billion worth of tickets in her career.

I hope by listing "Take A Bow", they put that on the DVD as an extra. It was the first time she performed it (and the only time) since the AMAs or Grammys with Babyface. It was a special moment.

The cool-looking official DVD artwork (above) was reportedly designed by a fan.

A lot of her fans hate this artwork. (I'm not sure if it's the final cover or not.) They all had a huge meltdown about it, saying how awful it is and why doesn't she get a professional. And saying they won't buy the DVD because they hate the artwork.

I personally think the artwork is cool and don't see what the big fuss is.

I wonder how much longer she will keep releasing concert DVD's. There isn't the demand for it there used to be since you can see videos on youtube almost immediately after the show. I know it's not the same quality, but it has basically the same content unless the DVD has a lot of behind the scenes stuff.

Hopefully it is, because it's awful and cheap.

I'm the type of fan who doesn't care about things like this. It's silly to have a meltdown over something petty like this lol I care more about the actual contents on the DVD.

Did you guys see how someone released Madonna's demo "Two Steps Behind Me" on iTunes and other platforms over the weekend? Song quickly went to #1 in Argentina I think lol but has since been removed from most services.

The cover is not great (the floor and the symmetry do not work), and is that background from the Windows Sample Photos?? Related image It does look like it was cheaply made. However I know the concert will be good!

I was very disconnected with Rebel Heart. It's just a horrible album. Madonna has, in recent years, been delving into any 20-something with a bootleg copy of ProTools to produce her music. "Illuminati", "Bitch I'm Madonna", "Iconic", "Unapologetic Bitch" - they are just horrible songs. Noisy, shitty, the most unmusical songs she's ever produced. Frankly, most of the album is just that - unmusical.

In comparison, when MDNA came out I wasn't connecting with it. Then I saw the MDNA Tour and found new interest in the music. A tour often gives me new views on an album's tracks. (That's even been true for some Prince music.) When I saw the Rebel Heart Tour on Showtime or HBO, I felt that while it was a great show visually, the music was thin and unfamiliar. Even "Living For Love" sounds like an undeveloped, demo of a wannabe-anthem. This is not the "I Will Survive" of the new millennium.

There are tricks Madonna uses in concert and it's getting old. The Spanish/Gypsy stuff is so predictable. It started a bit on The Girlie Show with "I'm Going Bananas" and "La Isla Bonita". Then more on the Drowned World Tour with "What It Feels Like For A Girl", and "La Isla Bonita". The set grew more and more with every tour. There's always the "fuck religion, I'm religious" part.

I have a lot of Madonna's discography, and I might buy this one to keep it complete, but ..it'll have to be marked the fuck down on sale twice over.

PS there are a couple of cool Madonna boots. There is a Fukuoka Girlie Show, at least two other Blond Ambition tour vids, one of which has Madonna being Madonna - her monocle gets hung up on her clothes in "Express Yourself". Her mic is on when she leaves the stage during "Where's The Party", yelling "GET OUT OF MY WAY" and "it's fucking hot". the Re-Invention Tour was never released, but a show from Argentina (or somewhere similar) is out there, with a good 5-minutes of darkness at the beginning. Almost like they wanted to start the show, but had a hiccup. All of them are soundboard pro shots.

I agree there is a certain disconnect with Rebel heart. There are some good tracks indeed (Especially Body Shop, Holy Water & imo "Heartbreak City" is nice). She is good when she is vulnerable and revealing....but when she is full of herself its very bad (Iconic, B Im Madonna). She loses connection with the audience when she is not talking about her breakup with her little boy toy a year ago.

In comparison, when MDNA came out I wasn't connecting with it. Then I saw the MDNA Tour and found new interest in the music. A tour often gives me new views on an album's tracks. I don't have Showtime and wasnt able to watch it. I have to see it smile

Yeah that got tired by the Sticky and Sweet Tour.

I thoroughly enjoy the Blonde Ambition boots on youtube, its basically a released version imo and have watched it many times. LOL!!! Can you send me that clip? lol

I love how Madonna does one of these DVD/CD sets for most of her tours.Carlos Santana (one of my other favorite artists) is the same way. They give fans a really cool souvenir from the tours.Every major artist should do this.I was disappointed that Prince didn't release his tours this way.

I thought "graffiti heart" was such a cool
little song when it leaked. But then they
put a dull lifeless version of it on the album πŸ˜•

Still, to me that album felt like at least half
of it went back to some mode melodic writing.

So it's funny to see that others find it to be
totally unmelodic πŸ™‚

I still think that the leaked album before the official album sounds way better than the official album. That's the one I play the most.

And, I don't know what you think, but I think the sound quality of the leaked album was far superior to what I received as an instant download when I bought the CD with extras on Amazon. I have found that to be true of other album instant downloads when buying CDs on Amazon for other artists...

Her best tour since Confessions, and maybe even better than that ... though I may be bias because it was the first tour I did back to back shows, paid for seats near the front, and caught a Christmas show in Birmingham biggrin She seemed to have so much fun on this tour though, it was great to see.

The Heartbreak City / Love Don't Live Here Anymore part of the show will go down as an all time great Madonna live moment. The Illuminati dance interlude was also insane!! Never forget seeing that live for the first time.

As big a fan as I am, I've got to agree with you on those songs. There was a great album in Rebel Heart if she had just cut the wheat from the chaff. Ghosttown, Hold Tight, Joan of Arc, Heartbreak City, Body Shop, and Rebel Heart were all good songs I thought ... the ones you mentioned, they really didn't do it for me either.

Where as she use to find producers who were on the cusp of the big time it does seem like she's collaborating with whoever the producer/songwriter of the moment is. Madonna is at her best when she's at the forefront of a new sound, not lagging behind it. I'd love to see her do another album as brave as Erotica was.

As for the tour, you really needed to see it in person to appreciate it. Its all about the energy in the arena with a Madonna tour ... and it brought songs like Living for Love alive, especially when coupled with the fantastic performances on stage.

There were so many great moments during the show to, such as the funky new version of Candy Shop which was so much better than the original version, the sing-along True Blue which totally brought a lump to my throat, and the middle part of the show where she performed a different song each night ... in London we got Like A Prayer and Substitute for Love, both great. For a singer who never changes her setlist, that alone was something to see.

"Madonna is at her best when she is at the forefront of a new sound"

I hear what you're saying but in this decade,is there really any "new sound" for Madonna to explore? Is there any more ground to break? I don't even know of any "new"producers that have a totally unique and original sound these days, especially in the dance/EDM genre.

This I agree with. The last two tours (Sticky and Sweet,MDNA) had some great moments but I think the Rebel Heart tour was simply more fun and more enjoyable.

They're out there, you just need to know where to look.

I'm really enjoying the new synthwave movement, artists like Lazerhawk and Droid Bishop. Its a very 80s sounds ... think John Carpenter soundtrack meets late nineties trance / ambient. It would be an amazing fit for Madonna as she started her career back when this sort of music was first in fashion.

There probably hasn't been 'new ground' as such for a couple of decades now; all modern music is derivative of something. When was the last truly unique new sound ... the eighties with hip hop and electronic / house music?
