Gorillaz Announces New Album, Humanz

There’s a new Gorillaz album on the way.

The virtual group, masterminded by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, will issue their fifth studio disc, Humanz, on April 28.

In addition to the standard 14-track release, there will be a deluxe two-CD, 19-track version and a limited edition Super Deluxe Vinyl Box Set featuring alternate versions of all 14 album tracks.

Gorillaz will perform the entire album live for the first time at secret location in London on Friday.

The band is also headlining the recently announced Demon Dayz Festival in Margate, England on June 10. More live dates are expected soon.

Yes gorillaz has been doing this collaborative sound four albums deep to be "hip" and chase popular trends that's why this album features such tired, expected mainstream cats like Jamie Principle, Grace Jones, and Kali Uchis. Starfucking hit chasers must not have been able to afford real talent.

the russian DELUXE edition has 26 tracks total.

Meh. I hope it grows on me. The only song I truly liked from the new songs released was Andromeda, and the one with Vince Staples grew on me like a mother. Overall, Im getting nervous about what the new album is going to turn out like. But then again, I said the same shit about Plastic Beach and I ended up adoring it, give or take a couple duds. Albarn always keeps it interesting, I'll give him that.

I went to the private album launch party at a disused warehouse in South London a couple of weeks ago, where they played the album live all the way through. Must admit, I was impressed. Far better than the last album.

Gorillaz Launch New Augmented Reality App

Gorillaz has released a new mixed reality app in anticipation of the release of their long-awaited new album, Humanz.

If you download the app, you'll be invited to the Humanz House Party, during which you'll be able to hear Humanz in full for the first time.

According to a press release, the Humanz House Party will be the "largest ever geo specific listening experience bringing people together across 500 locations." The Gorillaz app is now available for download on Apple and Android mobile devices.

Gorillaz make their studio return this Friday with Humanz, their first album in seven years. But as of last night, a small pack of lucky fans in Brooklyn have already heard it—performed live, in full. (Minus the first track we heard, January's "Hallelujah Money," perhaps, Stereogum writes, "for contractual reasons per Damon Albarn’s banter.")

Gorillaz' Humanz concert went down at Rough Trade NYC, an intimate venue/record shop/bookstore. Since the album has featured artists on every song but one, a bunch of guests rolled through—De La Soul's Posdnuos, Peven Everett, Jamie Principle and Kali Uchis. Surprisingly the performance didn't feature the animated characters that anchor the iconic virtual band. Brooklyn Vegan writes that it wasn't the plan, but a last resort due to technical difficulties.

"A number of singers who contributed backing vocals on the record were situated in the stage right balcony and performed live with the band," Stereogum says, adding that the encore included old-school tracks “Last Living Soul," Kids With Guns” and the immortal “Clint Eastwood.” (For which they brought onstage a fan who was "tripping balls right now.")
