Bob Dylan on...

Bono:

"Spending time with Bono was like eating dinner on a train—feels like you're moving, going somewhere. Bono's got the soul of an ancient poet and you have to be careful around him. He can roar 'till the earth shakes. He's also a closet philosopher...talks about the rightness, the richness, glory, beauty, wonder and magnificence of America." 2005

Has Dylan ever spoken about Prince??

Bob Dylan commented on Prince in a 1987 Rolling Stone interview:

.

Interviewer: The Phil Spector approach.
Dylan: Well, the live approach. The world could use a new Phil Spector record, that's for sure. I'd like to hear him do Prince.

.

Interviewer: Do you think Prince is talented?
Dylan: Prince? Yeah, he's a boy wonder.

.

Interviewer: Lately he's seemed to be a little trapped inside of it all.
Dylan: Well, there must be a giant inside there just raving to get out. I mean, he certainly don't lack talent, that's for sure.

An old Prince.org thread addresses this...sort of:

"relevant bit from the prince geek's bestest friend (in the form of a reference book), the vault:

9th March 1981

Prince plays Sam's in Minneapolis, the first concert of a month-long, 20-date club tour. Bob Dylan attended the Sam's show and wanted to meet Prince afterwards. However, Prince wasn't interested and turned him down."

Prince. Who else. I wonder if he was just impossibly shy or, being himself - aloof?

Shyness could be the reason. That's also why he didn't join the We Are the World project.
In the Rolling Stone interview in 1985 Prince said that he didn't know Dylans music very well and that All Along the Watchtower was his favourite- which he first heard from Jimi Hendrix.

There's also a story George Harrison told some years back in a radio documentary about a session for the Traveling Wilburys first album. Out of the blue, Dylan said, "Let's do one like Prince!", and started into an improbably raunchy lyric about a woman, based on a Little Red Corvette-style car metaphor (albeit given a slightly tongue-in-cheek twist). It became the song Dirty World. Made me smile to think of Bob having a crack at channelling his inner Purple One. lol

Yeah, I read about that. I liked the Travelling Wilburys, just never got around to buying the LP. Thanx for posting. Doesn't sound very much like Prince, but what the hell, it's fun. cool
