Very talented singer, I am glad she hung up the gimmicks. Her voice has a broadway threatrical essence to it that suits jazzs/blues music.

Maybe that's why I don't like her singing. I don't care for the Broadway musical theatre style of singing. Her singing is kind of stagey and screamy like Broadway, it doesn't come off as having genuine emotion to me.

And I don't think fashion and costumes should be seen as a gimmick. Was it a gimmick when David Bowie did it? It was part of his art.

I think wearing offbeat clothes does speak to a certain segment of society who feel they don't fit in so it's not meaningless or a gimmick

To the extent she's abandoned that it seems she lost part of her appeal.

No I was not referring to her clothing. I was referring to the excessive antics she use to do for attention that shadowed her talent. Also, I have to disagree. I think she has a very pretty tone and I think she has personality and emotes when she sings (all these things make a good singer imo).

I guess we have to agree to disagree on her voice. She may be technically good, but I find her tone unpleasant similiar to Cyndi Lauper who everyone raves about.

What antics did she do? It was primarily about dressing strangely. I'm not that impressed with her talent. For me her odd clothing was what make her interesting. Now she's kind of dull to me.

She is not exceptionally talented I agree but when she relied mostly on gimmicks for attention I never thought of her as talented. It wasn't until she hung up the gimmicks, toned down her performances and really showcased her raw talent. I finally saw that she had talent as a musician, artist and singer. Trust me, before I never got her appeal (I be the first to say this about any artist) but she is talented and I think she has more raw talent and I find her to be more interesting than most of her peers. I was really impressed with her later performances after her commercial peak. Her antics? Showing up in shells at red carpets and the other gimmicks she use to do, I didn't follow her like that before but I like the tone down Gaga better.

I mean, this is the same girl who made international headlines back in the day by showing up at an event dressed up in meat, she's the girl with the weird outfits and attitudes from the music videos , back when everyone used to be like "what the fuck is up with this Gaga?"... and all of a sudden she releases a whole LP of jazz covers with Tony Bennett... You can't say she's not talented.

I have always liked Gaga from the beginning, but yes, the weirdness of her persona may have turned some people off and not take her seriously as an artist, but I think over time she has proven many wrong and shown that she is truly talented. I saw a special on PBS back when she had that album with Tony Bennett and it was really, really good.

^ She definitly proved me wrong! razz

I thought her Super Bowl was one of the best half times! She did great! I also just researched a bit but she has second best half time show ratings of all time and she didn't use any excessive hype or marketing to gain that! I think that is great considering she hasn't had a big hit in years. I think people appreciate and respect the tone down authentic Lady Gaga better.
