Todd Rundgren Talks New Album, White Knight

Prolific singer/songwriter Todd Rundgren has announced plans to release a new studio album called White Knight on May 12. Few official details have been revealed about the record, which is available for pre-order now at Rundgren's official online store.

Rundgren did talk a bit about the new project last summer with ABC Radio, revealing that, unlike his recent studio releases, he was planning to have quite a few guest artists contribute.

"Living out here in Kauai, it's hard to get people together on a whim, so even if I do collaborate it's sort of remotely," he said. "But…I've gotten to the point where there's a lot of people that I have thought I might like to work with [and] it's time for me to get down and do it. So, this record will include a lot of names on it."

To promote the upcoming album, Todd has lined up a series of spring U.S. dates for a trek has dubbed White Knight: The Chivalrock Tour.

According to ToddStore.com, more than a dozen shows have been confirmed, running from an April 29 concert in St. Louis through a June 10 performance in Syracuse, New York.

Here are all of the shows on Rundgren's upcoming itinerary:

05/02 -- Minneapolis, MN, McGuire Proscenium Stage
05/03 -- Waukegan, IL, Genesee Theatre
05/08 -- Cleveland, OH, House of Blues Cleveland

Thanks for the info. I saw Todd perform a year or so ago. Still good in concert.

One of the songs on the new album might be a nod to Prince. Here's part of the album review.

“Buy My T,” the next Todd solo song, is an obvious homage/tribute to the music of the early Prince, circa 1981. Along with the Minneapolis sound that takes me back to high school, Rundgren delivers some of the most humorous and funniest lyrics I’ve EVER heard him sing. In full falsetto, TR advises us to “Buy my T/buy my hoodie/You can bootleg the music/but you have to buy the shirt.” We all know TR was a huge influence on the late Prince; here, the teacher pays tribute to the pupil.”It’s a limited edition/Will that be cash or charge?”
