The main problem is that Beyonce is simply overrated, overhyped and overexposed. Why must she always win several Grammys for every album? Why does she get all these opportunities that other female artists don't get? She gets to sing "At Last" during Obama's Inauguration party, while the real Etta James was still alive. She gets to sing a song from a film '(Selma') on the Grammys while the artist who actually recorded the song,Ledesi,is sitting right there in the audience. There seems to be this big, undeniable effort to make Beyonce bigger and more important than she really is.Adele won the Grammy for Album of the Year and this should have been her moment but instead,Beyonce was the big story.Hopefully, since she is now pregnant with twins, she will fade away for at least a year or so and now maybe somebody else can have "their moment" for a change, lol.

Why must she always win several Grammys for every album?

Her album "4" wasnt even nominated. But she did win one award for love on top.

Why does she get all these opportunities that other female artists don't get?

Shes a pretty girl was part of a succesful girls group who is profesional and works harder than majority of people.

She gets to sing "At Last" during Obama's Inauguration party, while the real Etta James was still alive.

The Obamas specifically requested her to sing.

She gets to sing a song from a film '(Selma') on the Grammys while the artist who actually recorded the song,Ledesi,is sitting right there in the audience.

Beyonce asked to introduce the performance and they either wanted her to just sing the song or she used her clout to be the one to sing it. That ones foggy.

There seems to be this big, undeniable effort to make Beyonce bigger and more important than she really is.

Its all in your head. She just successful

I clarified my statement to purplethunder I was talking more specfically about the concept of someone hating on someone when that person got to their position by having alot of personal sacrfices and a hardcore work ethic. I was just saying you got to repsect that even if you dislike hate or are indifferent to the person. I was speaking in general terms but of course beyonce is an example of this. As far as everything else you wrote ant hills and what not thats your personal view and I hear that. My personal view is beyonce has already made her mark and is continuing to make it and has surpassed numerous past legends at this point of her career.

Surpassed in what sense? The only way I can think of is in longevity.

Mostly performance wise.

This sums it up perfectly.

True story, her father came through my area this week and he did a presentation on the music industry but none of the young people were interested and these were people that were from 20-25 range and they kept saying how they didnt care for Beyonce. After the Grammys, most also said they felt her performance was weird and over the top. Maybe I live in a different location from some people but I dont see this fascination of Beyonce in real life. Most find her overrated and this is young people who feel this way. shrug

Let's define surpass in your view. Diana Ross, Donna Summer and Toni Braxton do not use dancers and gimmicks because not only is that not their thing but they dont need to. So which is better, an artist who needs the hoopla on stage, or an artist who dont. hmmm

Also, I dont see how she surpassed Madonna? or Janet Jackson? Can you break that thought process down? Moreso Madonna, cuz let's face it, Janet doesnt really sing live.

1. I want to address this right now because its a stupid argument that get brought up all the time regarding performers. In no way is it a weakness for someone to go on stage with a bunch of production behind them. In no way is it a strengh for you to stand still or sit on a stool for an hour an thirty minutes and just sing. Its just two different ways of performing thats it.

2. With that said Beyonce puts on a good show she a good performer she is not on the level of a Prince MJ Tina Turner James Brown etc.

3. How I rate performers is about how they make me feel can they bring out excitement and awe in me with there talents. Some artist enter that in the zone state where they feel touched by something higher than them, the audience can also get enraptured in that and its amazing feeling but it doesnt happen alot.

4. My main critcism of Beyonce besides her lackluster music catalog is her dancing and singing come off guarded like she doesnt bring her real self into her performance its like she doesnt get truly ugly on stage emotionally naked when physicaly the face is all scrunched up and the performer kinda looks crazy as hell. I mean she gets on the floor and acts crazy and she really sings with power and dances ferociously but the ungaurded nakedness of her as person is not there in her performance and to me thats while shes not on the level of a Prince MJ Tina Turner James Brown etc.

5. With that said Janet Madonna etc. I never found them to be all that great they have there strenghts but Beyonce exceeds them as performer for me.

The singers you claim Beyonce suprasses dont just sit on a stool for two hours or just stand still. They perform only with a full band. But since you claim Beyonce suprasses them I figured in your mind Beyonce's large production is better than their choice to just perform with a full band.

2. With that said Beyonce puts on a good show she a good performer she is not on the level of a Prince MJ Tina Turner James Brown etc.

Glad we agree here.

3. How rate performers is about how they make me feel can they bring out excitement and awe in me with there talents. We agree here. To this day, my most memorable Prince performance was in a nightclub in Miami where he performed Beautiful Strange, just him,his guitar, a drummer, bass player and keys, and there is no performance Beyonce could ever do to top that! cool

4. As I've stated i like Beyonce because she can sing and I do enjoy many of her songs, but alot of the songs are forgettable and not very original, her over-exposure is killing me lol, her performances are becoming more gimmicky and the hype over her political and cultural impact did more harm than good because it was a stretch. With the exception of sayings that we all say "put a ring on it" and "he found a Becky"..

5. With that said Janet Madonna etc. I never found them to be all that great they have there strenghts but Beyonce exceeds them as performer for me. Janet has a better catalog of music but she mainly dances, and Madonna stronger work were in the 80's.

I think we pretty much agree on everything. Just on the performer tip I hate when people make superficial comparisons about singers who are theatrical and dance with just people who stand there and sing because a lot of those performers can sing these so called "real talented people" who just sing under a table. Like lady Gaga or Beyoncé they both can sing really well but there performers who like to put on a show and that doesn't make them any less of singers or artist.

I wouldn't really call what Beyonce does dancing at all. Madonna (a formally trained dancer) in her prime could dance circles around Beyonce. Janet definitely has that over her and though Beyonce is the superior vocalist, I prefer Janet's voice. What she lacks in raw singing ability she makes up for in emotion (same with Madonna to a lesser extent). Not only that but Beyonce seems to talk to a beat more than actually sing now even though despite being a good vocalist, her voice is still pretty standard and lacks the soul of her predecessors and some of her contemporaries.

Because yall constantly compare her to Prince, MJ, and legends before her and always fawn over her music and performances like she is the only artist in the world that matters wacky Its silly and pathetic. I don't care what yall think about me. I think the fawning over her its creepy so I call it out. Yall make a bunch of threads nearly every week comparing her to a bunch of legends and fawning over her and expect for people to sit back and not have any say about the bullshit? Like Soul said people are TIRED of the constant fawning over every lil thing she does and constantly comparing her to legends when she is overrated and people are entitled to express their opinion on it. Whats fascinating is that yall fawn over Beyonce but then trash legitimate artists like Adele, Bruno, MJ and Janet, that is what is fascinating. Whats fascinating is that yall get bothered about my opinions related to her but never call out the eratic Beyonce stans that troll this site. She is overrated and I will ALWAYS express my opinion on it and NOBODY on this site is going to stop me from expressing my opinion. biggrin
